Head of Engineering – Chubb Life

Reporting to the CTO, Chubb Life, the primary responsibility of the Head of Engineering for Chubb Life is to cultivate the engineering skills and adopt new age software engineering tools into Chubb Life in order to support the fast growing business and customer needs. Concurrently, success will also be viewed in the ability to align Chubb Life solutioning to Chubb Group’s overall target operating models. In addition, as Chubb Life operates an extensive matrix reporting structure, strong influencing skills are critical in ensuring all technology related services and deliverables are executed within business expectations.

Responsibilities:

Software Engineering

Bring maturity to Chubb Life IT from software engineering practices, tools and frameworks perspective Introduce design principles and tools & frameworks for full stack engineering to Chubb Life and bring the best practices from industry standards Establish global code repository for all countries, DevOps automation pipeline, cloud integration and migration, data encryption methdologies etc., Develop flexible, adaptable, modular and reusable business solution designs in collaboration with product delivery and operation support teams Evaluate and recommend the use of cutting-edge technologies and methods, considering their pros & technical limitations Closely work with the development team lead in building the technology modernization such as DevOps and cloud migration Adopt Chubb global standards for Integration such as API design frameworks, service orchestration, rules management, service monitoring etc., over tools such as Camel, Drools, Camunda, Eagle etc., Act as an enabler of Agile and DevOps practices in collaboration with product delivery and operation support teams Adopt front end standards and technologies such as Angular, Node JS, Java Script, Bootstrap etc., for any front end development Ensure data encryption and security controls are well thought through during the software design process and adhere to the global standards of Chubb group

Building Engineering Teams

Establish engineering teams in offshore delivery centers for front end, integration and back office systems. In addition, also establish technology modernization teams for Chubb Life Ensure right engineering skills are onboarded in countries and be in the evaluation panel for country level senior engineering hires Onboard, train and build talent with deep engineering skills. Embrace new emerging technologies such as machine learning and AI and find opportunities to apply to the business use cases Build teams in in offshore locations to support the Life operations Be as a mentor for Chubb Life when it comes to software engineering aka. Technology Guru

Technical Collaboration

Be a member of the Engineering Community. Share and listen to experiences and technology insights of members globally to improve Life solutions and contribute value to Chubb as a whole. Within Technology, be able to communicate and collaborate with system owners to develop a technical direction and an overarching strategy to move a platform forward. Business Partnership : Work closely with the Chubb Life’s Group Technology Office Leadership and Country-based IT leaders to ensure full alignment of technology to their business vision and positively engage key stakeholders to ensure technology is seen as an enabler of strategy. Technical Quality:  Review the solution designs being produced by the development teams. Ensure that designs adhere to the overall architectural blueprint by reviewing the technical documentation generated by the teams. Technology Governance:  As digital business, ecosystems and technologies gain increased momentum, ensure IT governance remains current and effectively supports the Chubb Life vision. R isk Management:  passionate with ensuring privacy and protection of customer, partner and employee data plus takes full ownership for all technology-related emerging risks and the management of them. Team Leadership:  Sets a good ethical example and is seen as the role model with upholding and modeling Chubb values, even in challenging situations, when making decisions and communicating to others Technical Acumen : a strong technology foundation to ensure you positively guide technical discussions and solution design to optimize business solutions and services. Open-source technologies, cloud enablement and strategy, group alignment of platform strategy are some of the key competencies required. Hands-on technologist with extensive engineering background Strategic Focus : Incorporates a long-term perspective on the Chubb Life Group and the markets in which it operates into, both planning and execution. Actively seeks to build a diverse team leveraging different capabilities. Deep industry knowledge on Insurance and related technologies. Must have experience in programming (any programming language), system architecture and solutioning Total overall experience of 15+ years with a minimum of 5yrs Insurance technology experience and 10+ years of engineering experience Have at least 3-5yrs of regional/global experience with responsibilities over multi-country software delivery Effective engagement and alignment of IT with Executive sponsors and Business Stakeholders Effective in discussing complex problems and solutions with Developers and Senior Executives alike. Able to give presentations to large groups of listeners and lead discussions to drive to a final decision or outcome. Tertiary level qualifications in Engineering/Business/Finance or Management. Equivalent skills and experience will also be considered
