Medical Affairs (MA) is a critical bridge between Research & Development (R&D) and the commercial organization to ensure that our medicines reach the appropriate patients. GSK has committed to expanding the oncology business.

This is a critical role to ensure GSK’s oncology strategy resourcing and activities are aligned between the global Oncology Therapeutic Area (TA) organization and the countries. Medical will build scientific expertise to provide greater insight for effective strategy and planning while driving a significant external presence to support strong engagement in the highly competitive Oncology space.

Job Purpose

The Regional Medical Head Oncology role is a unique opportunity for an experienced, innovative, and proactive medical affairs professional to provide medical affairs vision and leadership for GSK’s Greater China & Intercontinental (GCI) region medical strategy for the Oncology TA. The successful candidate of the role will enable delivery and execution of medical affairs plans based on understandings of the global strategies, the multi-dimensional environments in the GCI countries focusing on external engagements, insight gathering, data gap analysis in the areas of unmet medical needs and regional and country level evidence generation activities to close these gaps.

This is a regional medical leadership position for the Oncology TA and the successful candidate will be accountable for providing the leadership in the region for the Oncology TA, including regional Leadership Team (LT) representation. The successful candidate will be accountable for ensuring the regional medical organization for Oncology TA has the right capacity and capabilities and for performance of the medical operational plans and evidence generation for countries in the region. This role will represent the region on both the global franchise medical team and appropriate commercial leadership teams.

Key responsibilities:

Accountable, in collaboration with the Head of Medical Affairs, for driving the development, implementations and execution of globally and commercially aligned Oncology Medical Plans across the region. (S)he is accountable for medical plan development and strategic deployment of all medical resources to achieve joint objectives. Acts as the medical partner to the Regional Therapeutic Commercial Organisation and the voice of the region to the Global Medical Franchise/TA Head and R&D Therapeutic Head. Ensures the patients’ needs, medical voice of the customer and market dynamics are understood and synthesized into medical insights and clearly translated into appropriate actions to enable appropriate use of our medicines for patients in the region. Oversee Phase IIIb/IV clinical development plans in the region by providing a consolidated regional perspective into long-term global clinical and value evidence strategies. Advocate for medical resources/data needed to support successful commercialization of products. Lead the scientific and external engagement strategy for the Oncology TA within the region in collaboration with key stakeholders, in partnership with the local and global medical and cross-functional teams. Enable a performance driven culture with clear metrics and business improvement embedded into the organization and be accountable for metrics to measure and communicate Therapeutic Medical Affairs activities to demonstrate the value and achievements. Be recognized as a trusted partner with commercial providing medical guidance and input and aligning and supporting promotional engagement strategy. Ensures Regional Therapeutic Medical uptake into multi-channel media. Accountable for Medical input and scrutiny into launch excellence processes, launch improvement workshops and LOC deep dives. Leadership responsibility for Regional Oncology Medical, including talent acquisition and development.

Qualifications:

Medical Degree preferred, with specialization in oncology. Strong medical affairs experience in the field of oncology/hematology spanning clinical development and medical affairs with product launch experience. Solid knowledge of drug development, safety, regulatory/ market access, and reimbursement requirements. Strong organizational planning and business acumen skills. Local country experience commercializing new medicines. Above country leadership experience. Demonstrated expertise in strategy development and delivery. Demonstrated ability to manage complexity and cultural diversity. Demonstrated history of matrix leadership and talent development. Proven ability to work in a matrix environment. Effective communicator, influencer, negotiator. Proven ability to interpret customer needs. Resilient, adaptable with the ability to work with new technology in the digital space. Proven ability to deliver effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management and scientific audiences using original or innovative techniques or style.
