Business activity is structured around four regions (LATAM, NA, EMEA, APAC) through seven global lines of business (Property, Construction, Energy, Casualty/Financial Lines & Executive Risks, Marine/Transport, Political/Credit and Political Violence, Space/Aviation). Clients in each region are served by specialized underwriters who rely on SCOR's technical expertise and client knowledge.


As a Construction Underwriter based in Singapore, you will be a part of the regional construction team. Under the authority of Hong Kong-based APAC Head of Construction and Zurich-based Global Head of Construction, you will underwrite construction business in the Asia-Pacific Region. This role will be stationed in Hong Kong for the first 12 months as part of training program.
 

Key duties and responsibilities

Underwrite, build and maintain a profitable construction portfolio in accordance with the SI underwriting guidelinesMarket the SI capabilities and products to Corporate Risk Managers, Brokers and Ceding companies in APACResearch latest risk management practices, loss lessons learnt, and analyse the portfolio results and market data, leading to produce various marketing and business intelligence documentsReport regularly on accounts and marketing activityProactively manage prospective construction opportunities in the target segments by early engagement with distribution channelsGenerate new offers and promote the Group by pro-active marketing in accordance with the defined strategy and risk appetite.Receive, select and evaluate offers of Construction business from various sources by independently analysing all information including risk engineering reports, calculate ratings, negotiate conditions of the contracts.Contribute to the technical knowledge of sectors in which the jobholder is working.To cultivate relationships with clients, brokers and cedents for business development purposes and explore new business potential through these sources Execute growth strategies including Key account management, and Cross Sell Initiatives. Support other SCOR lines by cross selling (Casualty, Alternative Solutions, …).Maintain an accurate database of risks accepted in various IT systems used by SI, e.g. Forewriter, Omega II, UP, SalesForce.Contribute to the claims settlement in conjunction with the claims departmentPositively interact with various internal stakeholders within SCOR

Candidate's Background

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering At least 7 years of working experience in construction industry, preferably with experience working in heavy civil construction siteOpen to be based at Hong Kong for the first 12 months as part of training programPrior experience in construction insurance/reinsurance market is a plus but not necessaryTeam player: active engagement and contribution to the teamAn enquiring mindset with the ability to work independently as a motivated and pro-active self-starterA clear understanding of the value and role of leadership together with an active approach to risk managementSelf-disciplined, principled and decisive decision makingOrganised and able to prioritise under pressureAbility to evaluate, condense and summarise key informationConfidence to develop and maintain a network of brokers and clientsExcellent communication and presentation skills and confident to represent SBS at conferences, meetings or professional associationsPrepared to travel extensively
