Corporate Counsel

Play your part in our team succeeding Legal, Compliance and Risk Management (LCR) in China & APAC is the regional legal team for the Danish LEGO Toy Company, covering all of Asia, with lawyers in China, Vietnam and Singapore, in a variety of legal positions. We need to drive and support all legal tasks in our region, like IPR and Corporate matters We need to act as the main point of contact for relevant legal issues, in accordance with our Mandate and Key Operating Principles. We also need to occasionally participate in tasks and/or provide legal support within other regions. Core Responsibilities: - Gain a thorough understanding of all aspects of the LEGO Retail projects currently planned in APAC and support all LEGO Retail related legal tasks for the LEGO Group in APAC. - Research and analyze all possible legal issues which could arise in the construction and operation of the stores. - Work with an established team of LCR lawyers to develop and implement a comprehensive program of training for LEGO retail colleagues and third parties who construct and operate the stores. - In close collaboration with the LCR team members in China & APAC and globally, drive and support the LEGO Retail agenda for APAC, including any digital law issues related to the retail business. - Manage internal and/or external stakeholder relationships to optimize work effectiveness, including building working relationships with external counsel. - Demonstrate a high-level of collaboration, knowledge-sharing and process optimization to accomplish tasks. - Document legal processes and work output in legal knowledge management tools. - Participate in all meetings (with LEGO colleagues, government officials, other companies and/or the courts) as necessary, to represent the brand, stay up to date on developments, provide advice and solve issues related to the LEGO Retail business in APAC. Engage assistance from other members of the Legal, Compliance & Risk Management (LCR) team in China, Legal Compliance, Government & Public Affairs, Sales and Communications, on all issues, including IP, contracts, media issues, permits, etc. - Report back regularly to the VP and GC for China & APAC, as needed, and assist with other legal work and projects for the China & APAC legal team as designated. - Be responsible for all the Corporate Secretarial work for the LEGO Group in APAC. - Work in close conjunction with the Business Services Organization (BSO) and our outside third party corporate secretarial management company, CITCO, to facilitate all of the work needed on a yearly basis for Board meetings, annual reports, filings, registration/deregistration and Board membership. - Handle any legal issues arising from the LEGOLAND Parks and/or Discovery Centers in APAC, in conjunction with the designated parks lawyer in the China LCR Team, and lawyers in Denmark. - Engage in and support other legal work as designated by the VP and GC for China & APAC. Do you have what it takes? - J.D. or equivalent law degree - Singapore bar preferred - Minimum 5-6 years of (postgraduate) legal experience from an in-house role at a global company or senior level private practice position. - Specific experience in Retail Law issues a must. Experience in Franchise Law is not required, but a nice plus. Specific experience in Corporate Secretarial work required. - Proven track-record in negotiation, litigation management, complicated commercial contract development and review, and effective stakeholder management. - Previous experience working with authorities on issues relating to retail development matters in one or more countries within the APAC Region. - Experience in planning and running training sessions is preferred. - An appetite for and ability to learn new skills, as well as the willingness to follow-through on tasks quickly. - Need to be highly collaborative, with a curious mindset and a "can do" approach. - Ability to effectively issue-spot and process large amounts of information in a speedy and systematic manner. - Excellent communication skills and excellent team member/player. - Demonstrate maturity as a calm, confident legal advisor. Some travel can be expected, likely not to exceed 30 days in one year. - Must be proficient in both written and spoken English.
