DESIGNATION : Senior Manager/ Assistant Director (Research & Horticulture)

RESPONSIBILITIES

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Orchid Collection**
- Cultivate and maintain healthy, floriferous orchid specimens
- Manage nursery operations, including plant propagation, transplanting, and re-potting
- Diagnose and manage plant health issues and disorders
- Procure plants, materials, and services as needed
- Curate, categorize, label, and maintain an inventory of plant collections
- Assist with the installation of plants at display sites according to the schedule
- Conduct daily inspections, maintenance, and replacement of plants at display sites

**Orchid Display**
- Develop and articulate the display narrative and storyboard content
- Create engaging write-ups for featured orchids and artifacts, ensuring internal vetting
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to manage project timelines and tasks
- Coordinate launch events, including drafting speeches and preparing tour routes

**Orchid Trials**
- Assess nursery processes to identify trial needs and develop a 3-to-5-year plan for orchid trials
- Focus on objectives such as flowering control, frequency, predictability and longevity
- Conduct data collection and analysis to enhance flower quality and display standards
- Partner with external organisations for concurrent trials aligned with departmental goals

**Data Inventory**
- Collaborate with team members to build and maintain a comprehensive data repository
- Regularly review scientific literature to enrich the database with relevant findings

QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum Master's Degree in plant-related Applied Sciences
- Extensive knowledge and experience in orchid cultivation and care
- Proficiency in nursery operations and plant propagation techniques
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and independently
- Strong attention to detail and a keen eye for plant aesthetics
- Strong skills in writing, presentation, data collection, experiment design, procurement and project management
