About the role

What you need to know:

- Providing legal advisory and coordination support to the Asia General Counsel.
- Working closely with legal teams from 13 territories across the Asia Pacific region in reviewing and assessing legal issues, ranging from contract and policy wording review to the implementation of global projects and initiatives in the region.
- Liaising with external panel law firms to obtain formal legal advice and representation, while managing costs effectively.
- Providing general legal advice and services to business units and supporting units, with a particular focus on supporting the Commercial Insurance business and the daily operations of the company.
- Supporting the APAC Financial Lines team by advising on policy documents (such as policy wording, endorsements and proposal forms) and other contractual and business matters, as well as compliance with internal underwriting bulletins.
- Coordinating and facilitating the approval of third-party intermediary compensation arrangements for both brokers and agents in APAC, by the company’s global Producer Compensation Committee (based in New York).
- Contributing to the company’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, inclusive of reviewing internal processes and education and training materials.
- Overseeing the consolidation of 11 regional reports (on significant litigation, significant regulatory matters, and legal contingencies, as well as claims bordereau submissions) in APAC. These are submitted to the Head Office in New York for internal governance and risk management purposes.
- Legal advice on and review of APAC marketing and communications materials.
- Advising the APAC Marketing and Communications team on an extensive project to refresh and standardize policy and marketing documents across the APAC region.
- Advising on internal employment matters, inclusive of contentious matters.
- Actively reviewing and seeking feedback from legal teams on existing operations support, to ensure that their operations, administrative and technology needs are met.
- APAC Pro Bono Coordinator, providing support and sourcing opportunities for the legal teams to volunteer across the region.

What we’re looking for:

- Law degree from reputable Universities
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a qualified lawyer at a law firm with a focus on insurance practice and/ or as an in-house counsel in the insurance industry
- Versatility as a team player and as an independent contributor
- Excellent command of the English language, both spoken and written
- Good grasp of legal and regulatory related matters arising within a global corporation context
- Agility in navigating within a multinational corporate environment
