Overview Join to apply for the Legal Counsel, APAC role at Cook Medical . Our Global Legal team supports Cook’s business functions globally. We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our Global Legal team on a full-time basis. This is a senior level position reporting to the Director and Corporate Counsel, APAC. The role provides strategic legal advice and support across a range of complex issues in the Asia Pacific region, aligning with Cook’s business philosophy while complying with legal and regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will take a proactive, innovative, and collaborative approach and will influence and lead across functional, business, and operational teams, not only in Asia Pacific but globally. Responsibilities Advise on alternative legal solutions based on expertise and understanding of the business. Identify and mitigate risks by researching and advising on complex legal and commercial compliance issues, developing resolutions, and proposing alternative solutions with sound judgment. Lead outside counsel by developing and managing budgets, coordinating internal efforts, and delivering results within established budgets. Stay updated on relevant laws and evolving developments; provide strategic, accurate, high-quality, practical legal advice to management and other attorneys; recommend policy or process changes as needed. Draft, negotiate and finalize a wide range of legal documents and agreements for operations, including but not limited to confidentiality agreements, development agreements, compliance agreements, bids and tenders, video/audio releases, and funding agreements. Support design, management, development, and implementation of functional policies, procedures, metrics, matter management systems, and governance frameworks to drive organizational objectives. Develop and participate in education and training to ensure employees and management are knowledgeable of pertinent standards, policies, and laws. Collaborate cross-functionally with various teams and keep leadership informed about legal issues and risks facing the business. Engage with external collaborators, including industry counterparts, trade associations, and outside counsel networks, to understand the legal landscape and align policy interests. Develop and participate in processes, policies, and procedures within the global legal function. Ensure Cook’s Code of Conduct is considered in all business matters carried out on Cook Medical’s behalf. Qualifications Education and/or Work Experience Qualifications 10+ years of broad legal experience, preferably including time at a major law firm, in-house, or a combination. General knowledge of the Asia Pacific region’s legal environment and landscape. Recognized degree or above in Law or related discipline. Experience in the medical device, pharma, healthcare, or other highly regulated industries is preferred. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Fluency in English and Mandarin (written and spoken). Strong understanding of regulatory environments and legal frameworks within the medical device industry, and applicable ethics and compliance standards. Proactive, collaborative, and capable of building strong working relationships across a global organization. Ability to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders and to operate across multiple levels of the organization. Conflict management, prioritization, and ability to deliver results in a fast-paced environment. Commitment to confidentiality, integrity, and continuous improvement. Ability to learn and role-model Cook Values and contribute to a culture of relentless invention and deep connection. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Willingness to travel for business and to participate in meetings outside of standard hours if required.
