A*STAR is Singapore's lead public sector R&D agency. The Singapore Institute of Food and Biotechnology Innovation (SIFBI) is a research institute under A*STAR and our mission is to help establish Singapore as the Asian Innovation Capital for the fast-growing sectors of food and ingredients for nutrition, health, and industrial biotechnology. SIFBI also supports Singapore’s “30 by 30” goal of developing capabilities and capacity to produce 30% of our nutritional needs locally by 2030. SIFBI’s priorities and research programmes underpinned by strong science aim to deliver our 3 key outcomes in Economy, Health and Food Security.

The Deputy Director/Director will also be responsible for the development of future research in the interface of nutrition and food science, and help shape policies that tackle food security, human nutrition, and the development of new foods to meet the Singapore ‘30 by 30’ vision. The aim of this position is to expand and integrate human nutrition within SIFBI in relation to food science, human nutrition, food process engineering, and human health.

**Responsibilities**:
Provide expert scientific leadership in developing a strategic focus for research in human nutrition relevant to SIFBI’s industrial and competitive research grant funding, aligned with national research priorities.

Develop research that integrates nutritional science with ongoing research in food science, food process engineering, food structure, biotransformation and fermentation.

To contribute to SIFBI’s research roadmap, strategy, portfolio and talent development as a key member of senior management.

Actively and strategically forge collaborations by working closely with industry and academia to build and strengthen relationships.

Develop novel and new ideas at the interface of nutrition and food that is relevant to the Asian consumer.

Mentor and nurture scientific staff (eg Research Scientists, Fellows) to maximize their productivity and output.

**Job Requirements**:
Proven track record in leading teams and undertaking research with evidence of successful research grant awards and industry funding

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Strong knowledge of data management, statistics and computing

Extensive experience in clinical trials, experimental design, and data interpretation

Ability to provide nutrition advice to industry, government agencies, and other statutory boards

Proven skills to translate nutritional science to product development and product commercialization

Ability to deliver results in a timely and comprehensive manner
