**Duties**:
As a Criminal Investigator**_, _**you will perform the following duties:

- Plan, implement, and guide national investigative programs, including the investigative proactive review program for the OIG/Office of Investigations.
- Work across broad functional units and processes within NSF, between NSF and other federal agencies, and NSF awardees, as well as with professional groups to ensure the effective resolution of matters being addressed.
- Recognize, identify, and address undefined issues and elements, and through extensive probing and analysis and coordination with other participants, determine the nature and scope of the problems and the factors that will be instrumental in their resolution.
- Independently plan, organize, and conduct extremely difficult and complex investigations of alleged or suspected violations of federal criminal and civil laws as well as administrative regulations.
- Conduct extremely sensitive investigations related to prominent or senior level government employees or civilian personnel suspected of involvement in complex criminal activities.
- Assist the NSF Office of Investigations' managers and the Special Agent in Charge to plan, develop, and implement management goals for the Office of Investigations as it pertains to expert-level projects and programs. These functions include coordinating with project team staff to establish action assignments, track progress, establish priorities, etc.
- Provide advice and guidance to less experienced agents regarding expert-level projects and programs.

**Qualifications**:
**To qualify at the GS-13 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 Level** in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes conducting complex investigations of sexual assault and/or stalking, as well as allegations of fraud, bribery, misuse of funds, false claims, mismanagement, conflicts of interest, and unethical behavior as they relate to Federal grants and/or contracts. Applicants should also have experience assessing organizational operations for potential adverse effects on agency objectives and reputation.
- **This position requires travel up to 50% to Antarctica.**
- The duties of positions in this series require moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. The applicant must successfully complete a physical examination. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required to perform the duties satisfactorily. Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters. Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels. Since the duties of these positions are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause applicants to be a hazard to themselves, or others is disqualifying. This position requires a medical health screening examination for the initial hire and bi-annual upon acceptance. In addition, this position requires successful completion of Physical Qaulifications testing for positions traveling to Antarctica as an ongoing condition of employment.
- **Completion of the Basic Criminal Investigator Training Program at a Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) or other equivalent law enforcement training such as US Army, Criminal Investigation Command (CID); US Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI); or Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) is required. You MUST submit the proper documentation in order to be considered.**

Experience refers to paid/unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) & other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, & skills & can provide valuable training/experience that translates directly to paid work.
