About the role
**The Technical Specialist: Climate Projects** role is crucial in the building and development of our business by providing technical support to the business on decarbonization strategies, project registrations, standards and best practices. Your job will be about understanding a complex and dynamic marketplace where changing legislation, product availability, and client requirements add up to opportunities for developing new and interesting projects. Solid communication skills and a strong understanding of technical concepts will be your best assets.
What you'll do:
**Technical advise**
- Provide technical support in carbon project feasibility studies, Preparing Project Design Documents (PDDs) and Monitoring Reports
- Support the Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) under different carbon standards and methodologies (The Gold Standard, Verra, or any other eligible international, national, or local carbon standard scheme).
- Build templates / inputs for calculating GHG emission reductions and removal potential of conservation & restoration initiatives
**Project management**
- Support the Climate Project Manager to prepare project proposals and deliverables in consultation with the relevant stakeholders.
- Work with project implementers to support the certification of the carbon projects.
- Keep the Climate Project Manager informed on the progress in the project and advise what is needed on the technical side on the carbon project development.
- Conduct site visits and travel to project locations whenever needed.
**Stakeholder engagement**
- Collaborate with the project implementers, consultants and service providers to deliver required technical analysis (pre-feasibility and feasibility studies) as required for project assessment and project design work.
- Maintain good relationship with the team members inside the organization as well as outside such as NGOs, carbon standards, project owners, authorities (national, regional, and local), clients, validation and verification bodies, and other counterparts.
- Attend conferences, exhibitions and webinars to keep on track with the latest relevant policy developments.
- Stay up to date with the latest status on standards, carbon platforms, and applicable methodologies;
Who you are:
- University degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences or any other relevant field of study;
- 5 years'+ experience in carbon project development or environmental consulting with a strong grasp of technical project documentation;
- Understand carbon accounting/modeling activities in accordance with the Voluntary Carbon Standards (VCS), Climate Action Reserve (CAR) or other reputable standard.
- Capable of preparing feasibility studies and PDDs for a variety of project types;
- Capacity to solve complex project-related problems independently;
- An affinity for carbon markets with knowledge of project-based carbon standards such as Verra, Gold Standard, CDM and others;
- Knowledge of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) procedures;
- Fluent in English; additional language will be an added advantage;
- Work rigorously organized with the ability to create high quality written project related paperwork;
- Strong interpersonal skills.
