About Planning

The Planning team sets the strategic direction for EDB’s work by:
(i) Determining EDB’s medium-term targets and priorities needed to deliver good economic outcomes for Singapore and Singaporeans
(ii) Assessing EDB’s progress on these targets and priorities, and making recommendations on areas requiring further investigation and management attention
(iii) Sensing for global and domestic trends that may warrant a review of EDB’s ambitions, strategies or tactical approaches

We work closely with the senior management team on these issues, and develop content for discussion at key platforms such as management retreats, Board discussions, and our International Advisory Council meetings. Through these activities, we also set the tone for EDB’s internal as well as external communications, and stakeholder engagement.

We are currently looking for a Manager/Senior Manager to uncover Data Insights. In this role, you will:
- Frame problem statements based on EDB’s business cases and formulate study design & methodology. Acquire and process data from various sources for analysis using econometric and/or data science techniques and conduct literature review for qualitative insights. Interpret and draw implications for EDB from the findings.- Analyse how the global addressable market, industry trends and Singapore’s competitive position affect EDB’s business health at industry, firm and project levels.- Present EDB’s business sensing and health in relation to statistics (e.g. published by MTI, MOM, DOS, MDDI) on economic activity and desired outcomes to internal and external stakeholders, identify implications for EDB and Singapore, and make recommendations on our ambitions, strategies or tactical approaches.- Maintain good data discipline, establish norms of sound data management, standardise methodologies for analysing commonly used statistics (e.g. GDP, value added by sector, etc.).

[What we are looking for]- Strong analytical capabilities, with ability to draw insights across multiple data sources, and utilize appropriate frameworks to drive discussions- Ability to engage and influence internal/external stakeholders to gain and act on insights, using strong written and verbal communication skills to structure and substantiate an argument with logic and empathy.- Ability to work adaptively under pressure in a dynamic environment, and flex in different teams as an individual contributor or peer leader.- Ability to clean and analyse data using Excel and Tableau (with knowledge in economic/statistical softwares such as Python, R and SAS an advantage) to derive actionable insights for the organisation’s strategy or operations.- Academic background in economics/econometrics and/or related disciplines (e.g. business analytics, data science), with interest or familiarity with economic or financial databases (e.g. Orbis, Bloomberg, etc.) or publications (e.g. UNCTAD World and ASEAN Investment Reports) preferred- 3-4 years of relevant working experience in a public sector agency or other large organisations.- Singaporean
