**Overview**

The traditional business model (taking natural resources, making a product, using a product, and then disposing the product) is putting a lot of pressure on our planet. Circular economy is to break the take-make-use-disposal model, and to keep the material in the usage phase for as long as possible.

WS Audiology (WSA), the leading manufacturer of hearing aids, is transiting to circular business model. The research project will enable WSA to make that transition. The project covers five aspects: returned hearing aids analysis, cost and benefit analysis, eco-design, operation process integration, and supply chain and peer company integration.

**Research details**

Analysis of returned hearing aids: Evaluate different utilized and non-utilized product return streams

Analysis of Cost-benefit (including environmental) of circular business model addressing B2B and B2C business models

Eco-design: Set up procedure and governance for eco-design implementation.

Operation process integration
- Changes required to reverse logistics processes to enable circular economy implementation: coordination, economies of scale, shipment integration, shipment logistics.
- Changes required to customer facing logistics processes to enable circular economy implementation: warranty, packaging, shipping, user guides, etc. for putting repackaging products back to the market.

Supply chain and peer company integration
- Supply chain integration: Collaborate with charger and battery suppliers to implement circular economy.
- Peer company integration: Collaborate with other manufacturers and/or collaboration with companies in other industries within the same region, who share the same need for collecting, reusing, and recycling certain materials, e.g.,plastics.

**Qualification**
- Master or Bachelor Degree in Systems Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Product Development, Supply Chain or related fields
- Experience in surveys or handling of real-world datasets
- Preferable knowledge in Circular Economy principles (circular business models, eco-design, reverse logistics), life cycle assessment, and/or material flow analysis
- Comfortable with statistics and data analysis
- Knowledge of Python, R, GIS software is an advantage
