Youth Work Associate

**Objectives of the role**:
1) To provide psychological, emotional, cognitive, physical and appropriate disciplinary support for the residents residing in the dormitory.

2) To use a trauma-informed care approach and must endeavour to promote the resident’s best interest at all times.

3) To support and assist Case Executive in their casework

**Key Responsibilities
**Resident Management**

1) Support Case Executive, Team Lead in managing one of the dormitory (Units).

a. Plan & execute weekly & holiday unit bonding programmes with input from the residents in your unit. The programmes must be varied, engaging, appropriate & beneficial for the residents.

b. Participate in regular circle times with all the residents in your unit to give instructions & information or to get their feedback.

c. Managing the resident in the dormitory according to the individualized care plan.

d. Manage the educational needs of your residents. Attend parent-teacher meetings and ensure that your residents attend school, complete their daily homework, revise for exams, have the required school books, clothes and other equipment, and are given additional tuition when needed in cooperation with the Education Department.

e. Journey and guide the residents through their trauma experiences and supporting them by building up resilience together with multi-disciplinary team.

2) Ensure the resident’s safety, health & good behaviour when they are inside the Home and during outings & appointments.

a. Monitor the residents to ensure that they are present in the Home, unit or the activity you are supervising (or their whereabouts are known if they are not there) and double check, communicate and give permission for residents to leave areas or activities under your supervision when it is requested or required.

b. Ensuring that they are following and adhering to the structure in the Home.

c. Monitor the residents to ensure that they are physically safe and do not partake in any risky behaviour or activities which could cause themselves or others physical injury - especially during playtime.

d. Monitor & report to the Case Executive of any complaints from residents, family members, volunteers or visitors to the Home.

e. Monitor & report to the Case Executive about any signs or suspicion of physical, sexual or emotional abuse or self-harm.

f. Monitor & manage the behaviour of the residents by encouraging & rewarding good behaviour and by preventing, discouraging or punishing misbehaviour in strict adherence to the rules & discipline procedures of the Home.

g. You are required to strictly supervise residents, the use of electronic devices; adhere to a strict locked toilet & one at a time policy; teach rules and give reminders about good touch & bad touch; and check in with residents to flag any behavioural concerns and issues.

**Youth Engagement**

1) Developing youths into well-adjusted and contributing members of society

a. Provide interventions and programmes to youths.

b. Support the Case Executive in conducting home visit and provide direct support and coordination of services for families when necessary.

c. Support assessments of needs of youths through collection of information and feedback from multiple stakeholders.

d. Participate in interest or play-based activities to engage youths.

e. Support delivery of group work and support groups.

f. To assist in formulation, implementation and monitoring of Individual care plans for the residents

g. Maintain proper record of all the services rendered to the resident in accordance to organization policy and MSF licensing requirement.

**Others**

1) Take on any other duties assigned by supervisor

**Minimum requirement
**Academic & trades qualifications**
- At least a diploma, preferably in Youth Work, Social Services, Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Nursing, Events Management, Community Development, Outdoor and Adventure Learning

**Work experience & skills**
- Stay vigilant during work hours to manage a big group of children
- Flexible and be able to consider plausible alternatives when met with decisions
- Empathetic and yet be firm when disciplining the children, and give them appropriate emotional support
- Able to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Has relevant working experience in other Homes or child-centered work environment
- Trained in first-aid and is able to perform first aid in case of emergency

**Personal qualities & behavioural traits
- Able to work flexible hours and upon last minute-notice
- Has passion and patience for working with children
- Can work independently, has a pleasant disposition and able to maintain good working relationships with other departments’ staff
- Good interpersonal skills to provide psychological support for children
- Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to children

**Working hours**:
Weekdays
- 9am - 6pm or
- 1pm - 10pm
- Total hours worked: 8 hours per day

Saturdays
- 9am - 5pm
