National Gallery Singapore is a leading visual arts institution which oversees the world’s largest public collection of Singapore and Southeast Asian modern art. Situated at the birthplace of modern Singapore, in the heart of the Civic District, the Gallery is housed in two national monuments - City Hall and former Supreme Court - that have been beautifully restored and transformed into this exciting 64,000 square metre venue. In 2020, the Gallery was the only museum in Southeast Asia that received a ranking in The Art Newspaper’s annual global survey of attendance at art museums, taking 20th place. It was the first museum in Asia to receive the Children in Museums Award by the European Museum Academy and Hands On International Association of Children in Museums in 2018. The Gallery also won the awards for “Best Theme Attraction” at TTG Travel Awards 2017, “Best Attraction Experience”, “Breakthrough Contribution to Tourism” and “Best Customer Service (Attractions)” at the prestigious Singapore Tourism Awards in 2016 for its role in adding to the vibrancy of Singapore’s tourism landscape.

DESIGNATION : Deputy Director (Learning)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director (Museum Planning & Audience Engagement), the Deputy Director (Learning) will oversee all aspects of the Gallery’s Learning portfolio, including the Keppel Centre for Art Education. The Deputy Director (Learning) will be encouraged to champion innovative thinking and fresh approaches to art and museum education via learner-centred strategies to help all visitors to enrich their lives through meaningful educational and personal connections with works of art both across the Gallery’s platforms (onsite/online) as well as via offsite outreach initiatives/exhibitions, which is aligned to the Gallery’s vision of fostering and creating a thoughtful, creative and inclusive society.

***RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Leads the Gallery’s Learning team in developing signature pedagogies using a research-based programme design and engagement approach to initiate and implement programmes to encourage interest in and engagement with art
- Maintains specialist and up to date knowledge of curricula and policy across the schools and to feed that awareness into the development of the Gallery’s learning activities and museum learning pedagogy
- Leads the team to create new and innovative approaches to design museum learning, particularly in relation to the National Curriculum for Art, and to ensure the effectiveness and quality of art learning activities in relation to these areas through evaluation
- Guides and participates in the (co)development, delivery and evaluation of learning programmes to accompany the permanent and changing exhibitions in relation to pre-schoolers, school-going children, educators and adults, as well as the development of outreach activities and resource material including taking artefacts into schools, developing a school loan service and facilitating access to the National Collection at the Gallery
- Identifies and develops partnerships with other cultural, non-profit and educational collaborators to co-develop specific curricula and learning resources around the building history and National Collection that will be used in schools.
- Guides a team of educators, as well as recruit, manage and train freelance facilitators as required to deliver relevant programmes.
- Provides direction and maintains oversight of the Keppel Centre for Art Education, including updating displays and programme activity spaces to optimise its potential as an inspiring environmental for learning and experiencing art, while also developing linkages and connections between the Keppel Centre for Art Education, galleries and other facilities, through learning programmes
