Head of Legal

**The Role**

As the **head of legal **you oversee and manage the provision of all legal services to the institution to ensure maximum protection of its legal rights and to maintain its operations within the limits prescribed by law. Provide strategic guidance, consultation, and support to the organization.

**In addition**:

- Structuring and leading the legal function to enable Skuad’s international business
- Leading and managing all legal affairs and providing transactional advisories for all strategic business engagements.
- Structuring, drafting, negotiating, and/or approving legal contracts, letters of agreement, policies, and other documents to safeguard Skuad’s interests.
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts and other documentation on a wide range of matters including marketing, collections and payment support services, terms of service, privacy policy, etc in relation to existing or new lines of business
- Building and maintaining a repository of agreement templates
- Engaging with internal stakeholders such as department heads and leadership teams to facilitate contract management flows. Assess and manage risks thereof.
- Ensuring Skuad’s business meets legal, regulatory, integrity, and contractual obligations.
- Oversight and compliance frameworks for various legal, regulatory, and government affairs-related matters. Driving compliance training and initiatives across teams. Create compliance calendars/checklists and audit their implementation from time to time.
- Liaise with external parties (regulators, external counsel, politicians, clients), engage in negotiations and closures of various contracts
- Identifying work to be outsourced, selection, and management of external lawyers, their fee arrangements, and service levels. When the event requires the appointment of external lawyers, instruct external lawyers, and manage and liaise with them.

**Ideal Profile**
- 10+ years of proven experience in general counseling
- Ability to develop legal strategy and objectives.
- Strong expertise in legal drafting, research, negotiation, and commercial and contentious work
- Competence to review and identify common legal issues in complex commercial documentation
- Interest in start-up ecosystems along with the curiosity to track and keep abreast of the changing regulatory landscape
- The ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and to re-prioritize quickly to address shifting business needs
- Excellent judgment and analytical skills. Ability to analyze business processes, spot issues, and propose/implement solutions from a legal and compliance lens
- First-class interpersonal and communication skills
