Research Fellow, Neuro-microbial Interactions

The Brain States and Behaviour lab investigates the biological basis of emotion, focusing on fear and anxiety. We have an opening in a project examining how interactions between the nervous system and microbiota (e.g. bacteria) influence emotional behaviour. We are looking for an energetic and creative Research Fellow to spearhead an investigation of bi-directional signaling between the nervous system and microbiota, using a combination of metagenomics, proteomics and experimental manipulation.
The laboratory is based at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, and is housed in the Experimental Medicine Building in NTU. This project is a collaboration with a number of labs, including the Gunaratne, Wee and Roy labs at IMCB, A*STAR, the Guillemin lab at the University of Oregon, the Piotrowski lab at the Stowers Institute, and the Nagarajan lab at the Genome Institute of Singapore. There will thus be ample opportunity to interact with scientists from multiple disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designing and executing advanced mass spectrometry-based proteomics/peptidomics analysis of animal cells/tissues and associated microbiota including biological and mass spectrometry sample preparation
- Performing up/downstream data analytics including integrative data analytics with available metagenomics data using computational biology/statistical tools
- Executing validation experiments (proteomics/biochemical assays etc.)
- Interpreting and presenting the data in a meaningful manner.
- Preparation of manuscripts and presentation slides
- Lab-housekeeping
Qualifications and Competencies:
- PhD in Life Sciences/Computational Biology or related field
- Experience in proteomics and/or genomics, and bioinformatics/computational biology.Experience in biochemical analysis (biological sample preparation, biochemical assays, chromatography etc.) is preferred.
