SIFBI (Singapore Institute of Food and Biotechnology Innovation) is a member of A*STAR Research Entities. The Analytics department provides a broad range of analytical chemistry support to the research groups in SIFBI, from the search for bioactive compounds from food, food waste, plant, and microbial sources, rapid chemical dereplication, differential analysis, metabolomics, large scale purification/enrichment of complex samples, structure elucidation of bioactive molecules, detection of adulteration, to compound quantification and standardization. The Analytics department requires a research officer to develop and validate new and existing analytical methods and assist in the discovery of new chemical entities. The holder of this post will perform a range of research tasks listed below.

Job duties and responsibilities
- Develop and validate LCMS methods for chemical analysis based on established methods.
- Independently perform routine and complex analysis using established analytical methods.
- Perform rapid screening (dereplication) and quantitation of chemicals in food, microbial, and plant extracts with databases.
- Isolation of volatile/non-volatile compounds from food, fermentation, microbial or plant extracts using flavour/bioassay/MS guided chromatography procedures (column, preparative HPLC, and centrifugal partition chromatography), including evaluation of new chromatography techniques and columns.
- Operation of LCQTOFMS and NMR including data acquisition and analysis.
- Collaborate closely with project team members and cross functional group in the organization or within A*STAR.
- Prepare and present project updates and reports in verbal and written format.
- Assist in preparing technology disclosure, publication, and funding proposals.
- Participate in maintenance and creation of laboratory training documentation and records, keep SOPs current, and provide support for proper training of laboratory personnel.
- General lab housekeeping, administrative support, and equipment maintenance.

Job requirements
- BSc in organic or analytical chemistry, or food science with emphasis in analytical chemistry.
- Preferably with 1 to 2 years of work experience in analytical chemistry in food or related industries.
- Familiarity with HPLC, LC/MS/MS (QTOF) instrumentation and NMR, data acquisition and interpretation.
- Good communication, presentation and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Good record keeping skills and strong attention to details.
- At least 1 to 2 scientific publications in high-ranking journals and demonstrate experience in writing publications.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
