Centre for Music and Health (CMH)

The Centre for Music and Health (CMH) is the first dedicated research center in South-East Asia to spearhead and investigate cutting edge, evidence-based practices that leverage the efficacy of music for health and well-being. Situated in the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, one of the leading conservatories in Asia, and embedded within a top-tier research university, the CMH is uniquely positioned to catalyze the artistic and scientific excellence of the NUS community towards research excellence in this emerging field. The Centre aims to establish world-class music programs and interventions to support crucial aspects of health at NUS and in Singapore, and beyond; and to develop interdisciplinary translational research and evaluation methods to support our evidence-based approach. We aspire to become the leading center for music and health in Asia, pioneering the development of music-based methods and interventions to improve people's lives.

The Centre for Music and Health is inviting applications for the role of postdoctoral Research Fellow (RF). This role is offered on a 1-year renewable contract basis; renewal is subject to satisfactory job performance.

The Research Fellow will design studies and conduct experimental research, prepare and submit IRB ethics applications, help coordinate research activities, and perform data analyses. The RF will need to be capable of working both independently and in a team, developing innovative solutions, and publishing research findings in high-impact conferences and journals. RF applicants should have a good publication track-record.

● Lead and contribute to research projects at the Centre, such as the impact of music on youth mental health.
● Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders (from academic and clinical partners to policy makers to study participants/patients) and collaborate within interdisciplinary teams
● Prepare manuscripts and publish in high-impact journals and conferences, and present at national and international conferences.
● Contribute to grant writing, funding applications, and other research-related administrative duties.
● Prepare IRB applications, submit clinical trial registration (when appropriate), and contribute to and maintain the Investigator Site File, paperwork and report writing.
● Assist in supervising research staff and students.
● Computational skills is a plus (e.g., experience with computational modeling, AI models, familiarity with Python, etc)
● Familiarity with EEG, Brain-Computer Interfaces, biofeedback systems, or biomarkers (collection and analysis) is a plus

● Ph.D. in Cognitive Science, Public Health, Medical areas (e.g., Neuroscience), Psychology, Health Economics, or related disciplines
● Significant experience with experimental design, quantitative analysis, statistics, and mixed-methods approaches
● Strong publication track record
● Strong project management skills
● Ability to work independently and in teams
● Some knowledge of music/music theory is strongly desired
