Role Summary

The role shall encompass end-to-end leadership of mechanical engineering design activities for BDx data center facilities to meet strict quality and performance levels.

Duties and Responsibilities

Building capacity

• Conceptualising technical design for new sites and collaborating with internal/external teams on strategies to enhance existing sites.
• Develop preliminary technical specs and work with commercial team & analysts to arrive at preliminary budgets and culminating in a prospectus document for Sales team.
• Support teams on site selection, technical due diligence & advise on local permitting matters.
• Appoint and manage external consultants in executing the project through all design phases—from TDD/Concept/Masterplan design to construction documentation.
• Provide direction to design consultants and contractors to ensure high standards of quality in the executed work to ensure alignment with the business objectives, technical requirements outlined in project brief & BOD and compliance to local statutory requirements.
• Support the project manager during the construction phase with information as required.
• Coordinate with the Commissioning Agent, contractors, and operations teams to execute all phases of startup and commissioning, including Integrated System Testing (IST); responsibilities include reviewing commissioning scripts, resolving critical punch-list items, and managing QA/QC closure activities.
• Develop and maintain design standards, design prototypes, and template specifications for related to site design.
• Work closely with Central D&C team and Operational counterparts to integrate insights and lessons learned into the design of new data center projects to document lessons learnt within running projects for continuous enhancement of BDx standards.
• Review engineering design documentation from consultants and perform independent assessments of technical and cost-related aspects.
• Participate in shortlisting/evaluating Consultants, Vendors & Contractors. Maintain vendor relationships to ascertain suitable long-term partnerships.
• Support sales teams on potential customer enquiries as needed.
• Discussing with the clients, government authorities or other third parties for design approval.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• At least 5 years of Mechanical engineering experience within the Construction industry with at least 3 years being in Data Center Design.
• Understanding of Mechanical engineering design concepts encompassing MVAC, Fire detection & suppression, Plumbing, Drainage & Fuel systems.
• Local experience in Indonesia/Jakarta on relevant projects.
• Understanding of local design standards and regulations.
• Understanding of Uptime Tier requirements.
• Excellent communication skills in English (including formal written correspondence) and Bahasa Indonesia.
• Strong stakeholder management capabilities.

Desirable Qualifications & skills

Below are desirable but not essential

• Master's degree in Mechanical engineering OR other related discipline.
• Basic Understanding of other disciplines like Electrical, Controls, CSA etc.
• Familiarity with latest DC design trends and industry direction.
• Past work experience at an international design consultant.
• Strong network within local DC ecosystem of consultants, contractors, vendors, authorities etc.,
• Uptime Accredited Tier designer or completed TCCF on past projects.
• Experience in construction project management.
