Community Audiology – Assistant Coordinator

Overview

Reporting to the ENT Allied Health team lead, an Assistant Coordinator is an ancillary staff who is responsible to work in collaboration with Audiologists and Audio Technicians to help in clinical, administrative, and technical duties, to ensure continuity of patient care in their aural rehabilitation process.

Job Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the following:

  1. Assists in clinic operational duties

  2. Managing daily operations of the service points assigned including front counter services, administrative and operational matters of the community clinics.

  3. Requisite, control and maintain good utilization of consumables, hearing aid stocks and office supplies in community clinics.
  4. Assist in scheduling of patients' appointments using SAP especially for hearing test, hearing aid services and special arrangement in community clinics.
  5. Work with the audiologists to ensure a positive experience for the patients along the continuum of care and devise innovative ideas to improve the delivery of care and delight patients.
  6. Responsible for ensuring that the MHCs and SHCs are patient friendly, safe and spick & span.
  7. Assists in triaging of patients:

  8. Triaging and assessing of all patients who are referred for hearing aid evaluation from specialist outpatient clinic.

  9. Conduct counselling on hearing aid styles, model, and realistic expectation of hearing aids.
  10. Assess the patient's readiness and interest in taking up hearing aids.
  11. Synthesize assessment information to identify patient's main concerns and prioritize care needs.
  12. Work in partnership with patients and families on the services and options available. Coordinate the necessary referrals accordingly.
  13. Conduct financial counselling on hearing aid cost, consultation charges and subsidies available.
  14. Liaise with AIC to ascertain patient's eligibility for Senior Mobility Enabling Fund.
  15. Document the assessment, plans, and/or triage outcomes timely and accurately in the relevant system.
  16. Assists in hearing aid services:

  17. Troubleshoot hearing aids and decide on appropriate action.

  18. Assist patients with hearing aid spare-part replacements.
  19. Send the hearing aid for repair if necessary.
  20. Conduct basic audiological assessments:

  21. Obtain case history from patients, caregivers and/or parents

  22. Perform Otoscopy and Immittance test (Tympanometry and Acoustic Reflex).
  23. Interpret audiometric results for patients, caregivers/parents and health care professionals involved.
  24. Other general duties:

  25. Attend to ad-hoc assignments assigned by Reporting Officer.

  26. Perform daily calibration of audiology equipment.
  27. Assist in scheduling of patient appointments using NUH system and confirming of patient's attendance.
  28. Attend to e-mail and telephone inquiries from patients.

Qualification:

  • Completed at least a diploma in any science-related fields.
  • Prefers someone who have received in-house training conducted by principal/senior audiologists or attended relevant audiological lessons conducted by the NUS MSc Audiology program.

Experience:

  • Entry level. Clinical experience not required.
  • Relevant experience of 1 year and above in a similar setting is preferred.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • A minimum of 3 to 6 months on-the-job training supervised by a Senior Audio Tech/Audiologist/ Senior/Principal Audiologist will be provided.
  • Maintain a minimum required competency in annual competency review.
  • Familiar with hearing aid technology and other related updates.
  • Understand the relationship between hearing and speech.
  • Able to communicate well with hearing impaired individuals.
  • Computer literate.
