Job Description

The Heat Resilience & Performance Centre (HRPC) is a first-of-its-kind research centre, established at the National University of Singapore (NUS), to spearhead and conduct research and development to address the challenges arising from climate change & extreme heat.

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Research Fellow to join our team for a study on developing high-resolution heat stress maps to assess urban heat island (UHI) effect and public heat risk in Singapore. The successful candidate will conduct in-depth literature reviews to identify key determinants of heat vulnerability, consult with relevant experts for further insights, and work with available large climatic and demographic and health datasets as part of this high-impact research.

Responsibilities

The main areas of responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Lead the development of heat risk assessment metrics
  • Investigate and assess current methodologies and approaches for vulnerability assessment
  • Collaborate in the execution of the larger research efforts on analysing UHI characteristics and impacts, and integration of developed assessment metrics into the larger heat stress map development
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and engage with stakeholders
  • Prepare and disseminate research findings through scientific publications, reports, and presentations to stakeholders
Qualifications
  1. Ph.D. in a relevant field such as Physiology, Public Health, or related disciplines.
  2. Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale data sets and conducting health-related research studies.
  3. Strong analytical skills with proficiency in statistical software and data analysis tools, particularly in health and climate data integration.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
  5. Experience in interdisciplinary collaboration and a commitment to fostering a collaborative research environment.

  • Prior experience in research related to climate change, heat-related illnesses, or public health preparedness.
  • Experience with data modelling and scenario analysis in health and climate studies.
