KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Manager (POEM) leads initiatives in Professional Affairs, Awards and Prizes, translating strategic directives into actionable plans that advance the Academy's mission to recognise excellence and uphold professional standards in the legal community.

The role serves as Secretariat to the Professional Affairs Committee, overseeing its meetings, working groups, and implementing the Committee's recommendations. It also manages relationships with institutional partners.

The Senior Manager is also responsible for the planning and delivery of key professional recognition platforms, including the Academy's awards, prizes and related events. Additionally, the Senior Manager contributes to milestone projects, develops new recognition initiatives, and supports programmes related to professional development, ethics and public engagement.

KEY SPECIFICATIONS

1) Strategic Leadership and Capability Building


• Lead assigned team in operationalising the strategic directions.


• Manage project budgets and resources, recommending efficiency and improvements.


• Monitor, evaluate and analyse data on programme outcomes, while collaborating internally on proposed enhancements to programme design, delivery, and operations.


• Supervise and mentor team members, modelling high standards of professionalism, accountability and creativity.

2) Secretariat, Collaboration and Partnerships


• Provide secretariat support, including coordination of meetings, working groups, and follow- up actions.


• Manage and strengthen working-level relationships with partner institutions.


• Facilitate collaboration across SAL departments to integrate partner contributions into ongoing programmes.


• Execute partnership deliverables, track outcomes, and recommend refinements for sustained impact.


• Support the HOD in negotiations and prepare proposals, presentations, and reports for   external partners.

3) Programming and Delivery


• Develop and manage programme plans covering scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables.


• Refine and consolidate programme outlines, synopses, event briefs, and publicity blurbs.


• Allocate resources across projects and monitor adherence to timelines.


• Consolidate and analyse reports on project status, expenditure, and outcomes.


• Review and evaluate consolidated reports to guide departmental priorities and improvements.

4) Specialisation and Special Projects


• Oversee designated specialisation areas, ensuring consistency and quality across programmes by coordinating and supervising unit members.


• Contribute to the planning and management of milestone events and programmes.


• Develop proposals for new formats, platforms, or approaches, and oversee pilot runs to assess feasibility for wider adoption.

REQUIREMENTS:

· Bachelor's degree, with at least six years' experience in programme management, large-scale event operations, or corporate communications, preferably in the legal or related professional sectors.

· Proven track record in leading major programmes or events —covering end-to-end planning, budget oversight, stakeholder management, and team leadership.

· Prior experience engaging with the legal sector or senior legal professionals will be an advantage.

· Strong strategic and analytical thinking, with the ability to translate organisational priorities into operational plans, drive innovation, and improve departmental capabilities.

· Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop high-performing teams.

· Skilled at fostering collaboration across departments, consolidating data and insights to guide decision-making, and managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

· Meticulous, resourceful, and proactive, with strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

· Proficient in productivity, project management, and event management tools and platforms.
