Team Structure:
The Singapore accounts team is responsible for the processing and integrity of information relating to; purchase ledger; credit control; cashiering, billing and the preparation of daily, weekly and monthly reports. The Finance Manager prepares the management and financial statements.
The team is currently made up of seven: five colleagues in Stephenson Harwood LLP (four of which report into the Finance Manager) and two in our alliance firm, Virtus Law LLP. The role has dual reporting lines - into the Office Manager and the International Head of Finance. In addition, the incumbent joins the wider Accounts team network and will work regularly with our London management accounts team.
Main Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of the role include:
Finance function
- Day to day management of the Finance function
- Oversee the preparation of GST tax returns
- Helping to improve and unify the financial reporting for both Alliance firms
- Overseeing WIP and Debtor reviews with partners
- Authorisation of expenses and invoices in accordance with policies and procedures
- Authorisation of cashier payments
- Review of client and office account bank reconciliations
- Overseeing finance related policies and procedures
- New joiner induction - finance related aspects
Management Accounts
- Preparation of monthly management accounts, within timetable set by the central Accounts team
- Preparation of the Stephenson Harwood LLP annual budget and liaison with the accounts team in relation to the budget of our Singapore alliance law firm, Virtus Law
- Ongoing review of the P&L against budget, with regular forecast updates during the year
- Monthly presentation of Accounts to Partners
- Preparation of full monthly cash flow statements
- Regular review of balance sheet
Annual Accounts
- Main point of contact for the auditors for year end and annual accountants report
- Ownership and preparation of the Annual accounts including partner profit allocations, drawings and current account statements; from FY24 this will be aligned to IFRS
- Liaising with tax adviser in relation to the preparation of the LLP's annual tax return and adhoc tasks such as withholding tax and other tax related issues
Partners / Other
- Providing reports to assist Partner appraisals
- Liaison with the London team in relation to partners' capital and current accounts held in London
- Liaising with tax adviser in the preparation of the partner's tax returns
- Information requests / ad hoc reports from the London office
Attributes/Skills Required:
In addition, the incumbent will demonstrate or have acquired the following:
- A minimum of 5 years as a qualified accountant and experience of IFRS is essential
- Not afraid to challenge thinking, has an aptitude for problem-solving and a methodical approach to their work
- Strongly demonstrates the Stephenson Harwood values of individuality, commitment, teamwork and straight talking
- Demonstrable evidence in having strong work habits and time-management skills.
- A high attention to detail, someone who enjoys 'getting things right' and knows the importance of data
- Excellent working knowledge of Excel along with relevant finance systems relevant to the legal sector
- An experienced manager who can motivate others, collaborate effectively and drive performance
- An ability to flex one's style when needed and equally have a good level of resilience, persuasion and reasoning skills, and knowing how to manage oneself in challenging situations and with competing deadlines & demands
