SGS Construction Materials Testing Laboratory is dedicated to delivering best-in-class construction material solutions, covering wide-ranging testing, inspection and monitoring services for different kinds of construction and environmental materials. We focus on providing precise and efficient services for builders and contractors and committed to assist and facilitate their project development process. This laboratory is supported by our affiliate in SGS Hong Kong, The Lab (Asia) Limited to service our customers in Singapore.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily laboratory activities, including scheduling, workflow management, and resource allocation.
  • Manage the development and implementation of laboratory procedures and protocols to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulatory compliance in all laboratory operations ensuring safety-first culture within the laboratory.

Specific responsibilities:

  • Conduct tests on Construction Materials such as Steel and Concrete in accordance with relevant international standards.
  • Work towards obtaining accreditation and approved signatory for assigned area and consistently looking to expand accreditation scope.
  • Work with customers to understand test requirements and allocate appropriate resources and technical advice to meet those requirements.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide mentorship to laboratory staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support research and development initiatives.
  • Oversee quality control measures and test SOP, ensuring accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
  • Manage inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment, ensuring optimal functioning and availability.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned by the reporting manager.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Science or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with SAC-Singlas ISO 17025 accreditation.
  • Strong understanding of laboratory practices, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage projects independently and effectively.
  • Proficient in oral and written English.
  • Able to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in laboratory techniques and methodologies.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of management, affiliates, suppliers, and clients.
  • Highly organized and flexible.
  • Ability to coordinate and work as a team towards common goals.
  • Demonstrates judgment and adherence to SGS standards of ethics and integrity.
