As Legal Counsel, you will be the strategic legal advisor for the firm's real estate investments and transactions across Asia Pacific. This role is critical in managing real estate acquisitions, development, leasing, financing, and regulatory compliance in conjunction with the firm's APAC compliance team, ensuring legal risk mitigation while supporting business growth.

You will oversee complex real estate transactions, including joint ventures, M&A, fund structuring, and asset management, working closely with internal stakeholders, external counsel, investment fund administrators and government authorities. The ideal candidate is a seasoned commercial real estate legal expert with significant experience in commercial real estate transactions, cross-border transactions, and regulatory frameworks. Experience with transactions involving international private equity real estate investment managers and funds is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counsel on real estate acquisitions, dispositions, developments, leasing, financing, general asset management, joint ventures and co-investments.
  • Oversee legal due diligence for new investments, ensuring risk mitigation and compliance with local and international real estate regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to real estate, corporate, and fund-related legal frameworks across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Manage external legal counsel, consultants, fund administrators, and regulatory advisors, ensuring cost-effective and strategic legal support.
  • Oversee legal and related workstreams for investments, general corporate governance, and internal operations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, tax, compliance, asset management, fund operations, capital-raising/fund formation and investor relations as needed.
  • Advise senior leadership on legal, regulatory, and risk matters impacting the firm's investment strategy and operations.

Ideal Experience & Qualifications

  • LLB, Master of Laws (LLM), J.D. or equivalent law degree.
  • 10 years of experience in commercial real estate law, preferably from a top-tier law firm or an in-house role within a PE/real estate investment firm.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-stakes projects simultaneously and work effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Extensive experience in complex real estate legal transactions across APAC markets.
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
