About the Role
This is a cross functional role where you would perform commercial (e.g. merchandising, sales, procurement, marketing), supply chain (e.g. logistics, refinery operations), operational (e.g. shipping), and research (e.g. supply and demand) functions to support the traders and business heads in making their commercial decisions. Through this role, you will gain the skills and knowledge to have a solid career in agriculture commodity trading, whether in a commercial, supply chain, or research role.
Role Scope:
- Perform or assist trading team in its daily trading / marketing activities, logistics and refinery operations.
- Liaise with suppliers and customers to buy raw materials and sell refined products at a profitable margin.
- Service existing and develop new suppliers and customers
- Liaise with the operations team at the manufacturing plant to optimize operating efficiencies
- Analyze supply and demand and weather data in order to forecast supply and demand trends
- Complete special project requests as assigned
- Work effectively in a team setting to collaborate, develop strategy, and problem solve
- Willing to travel frequently and potentially at short notice throughout Asia
Skills/Experience Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in Engineering or Science (Chemistry / Food Science & Technology preferred) or Economics from a accredited university
- Preferred candidates would have at least 10 years working experience in agriculture commodities or food technology.
- Proficient in English. Preferred candidates would be able to build relationships with suppliers who speak Chinese (Mandarin and other dialects) or Bahasa (Malay or Indonesia) as well as able to read government regulations and announcements in Bahasa.
- Must be collaborative, possess excellent interpersonal, problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Exhibit an owner's mentality and a strong sense of self. They would possess initiative and leadership skills while working in a team.
- Have knowledge of and an interest in micro and macroeconomics.
- Able to work in a fast-paced, intense environment.
