Job Overview:

The Quantity Surveyor (Electrical) plays a vital role in managing the financial and contractual aspects of electrical works within construction projects. This role covers cost estimation, tendering, contract administration, budgeting, and cost control. The QS (Electrical) ensures that all electrical works are delivered within budget, on time, and to the required quality standards while supporting overall project success.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Estimation & Budgeting

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, bills of quantities, and budgets for electrical and ACMV (Air Conditioning & Mechanical Ventilation) works in construction and A&A (Alteration & Addition) projects.
  • Analyze project drawings, specifications, and technical documents to determine material, equipment, and manpower costs.

Tender & Procurement

  • Prepare and review tender documents, bid proposals, and quotations for electrical contractors and suppliers.
  • Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations, ensuring competitiveness and compliance with project requirements.
  • Assist in negotiating contracts and agreements to secure favorable terms aligned with budget and scope.

Project Cost Management

  • Monitor and control project expenditure, ensuring costs remain within approved budgets.
  • Track variations, claims, and change orders, preparing supporting documentation for client or contractor submission.
  • Prepare progress payment recommendations and financial reports.

Value Engineering & Cost Optimization

  • Identify opportunities for cost savings through alternative materials, methods, or designs without compromising quality and safety.
  • Advise project teams and clients on cost-effective solutions and risk management strategies.

Contract Administration & Reporting

  • Administer contractual matters including variations, claims, and interim valuations.
  • Provide regular cost reports and forecasts, highlighting potential risks and deviations.
  • Support project managers in financial decision-making and contractual compliance.

Site & Quality Coordination

  • Conduct site visits to verify completed works against claims and ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Liaise with project teams, consultants, and clients to resolve cost or contract-related issues.

Dispute Resolution & Client Advisory

  • Manage and resolve disputes or claims relating to cost, payments, or contract terms.
  • Provide professional advice to clients on budget planning, financial feasibility, and contractual strategies.

Job Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a related role.
  • Education: Diploma in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Skills:

  • Strong analytical and numerical skills, with great attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in cost estimation and project management software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team.
  • Effective negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Understanding of risk management and mitigation.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and standards.
