Strength and Conditioning Scientist I

The High Performance Sport Institute (HPSI), under Sport Singapore, supports Team Singapore athletes by providing high-performance systems and services. It aims to help athletes reach their full potential and inspire national pride through sporting excellence. The Strength and Conditioning team at the High Performance Sport Institute develops innovative, tailored training programs and methodologies, enhancing athletes' physical capabilities for peak performance.

Co-led by Sport Singapore, Singapore Sports School (SSP) and National Youth Sports Institute (NYSI), you will be part of a journey to support the vision for the next bound to build new capabilities for high performance sport and better integrate our programmes/policies to strengthen support for youth to senior athletes, and youth-to-senior transition.

Job Description:

• Plan, coordinate and implement the provision of strength & conditioning services for carded athletes and coaches across the development spectrum.
• Advise the Team Lead, Strength and Conditioning and other SportSG, HPSI and NSAs staff of appropriate methods of implementing the overall programme of support.
• Work closely with the SportSG and HPSI staff, NSA and other national sporting organisations in the implementation and coordination of S&C services.
• Perform the duties of a Sports Lead coordinating sport medicine and sport science support for selected sports.
• Work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team of support staff within SportSG, HPSI and with NSAs, delivering top class services to athletes and their coaches.
• Maintain comprehensive digital records of the assessment and support provided to athletes and coaches.
• Provide regular oral and written reports at appropriate meetings associated with the programme.
• Ensure that HPSI effectively meets its support and research commitments to NSAs, athletes and coaches.
• Ensure that an accurate inventory of all equipment and supplies is maintained.
• Develop other S&C scientist and sports science staff where appropriate.
• Coordinate student and interns placements within HPSI as and when appropriate.
• Work within the rules of the Professional Code of Conduct, Scope of Practice, and those of SportSG, SSI and the NSAs.
• Within the rules of professional confidentiality, liaise with athletes, primary care managers, parents, coaches and other support staff as appropriate.
• Maintain knowledge of current issues, trends and research in high performance sport, e.g. through literature reviews.
• Lead research, development and innovation initiatives in S&C and other related areas of sport sciences.
• Develop and implement quality assurance, risk assessment and safety programmes pertaining to athletic training.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree  in Physical Education, Sport Science or related field
• Internationally recognized professional certification or qualification in S&C (e.g., Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA) Certificate, Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or an equivalent qualification)
• Minimum 3 years of practical experience in the sport environment working closely with athletes and coaches in the planning and delivery of strength and conditioning services.
• Physically able to provide and demonstrate a detailed background and diverse experience in the hands-on delivery of strength and conditioning and/or physical training programmes
• Proven ability in conducting scientific research and various physical testing protocols
• Proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary team, able to multi-task, work independently and possesses a high level of initiative
• Be a highly motivated and team-oriented individual able to work irregular working hours and travel with teams when necessary
• Take guidance and function as a contributing team-player but also exhibit the experience, initiative and drive to lead athlete and coach groups down the path of world's best practices
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated effectiveness in negotiation, communication and consultation with athletes and coaches from diverse sports and training backgrounds The level of appointment will commensurate with an applicant's experience and track records.
• Experience with i) providing strength and conditioning/sport science support to combat sports ii) rehabilitation is advantageous.
