Lead Vocational Coach

The Lead Vocational Coach is responsible for overseeing the provision of individualized support and guidance to clients to help them identify, pursue, and achieve their vocational training goals. This role involves overseeing quality of client vocational assessments and vocational training plans to ensure they are person-centred and to ensure successful integration and retention in different vocational training pathways. The Vocational Coach works collaboratively with Social Enterprise (SE) department, Job Placement and Job Support (JPJS), Occupational Therapist (OTs) and other stakeholders to develop systems, structures and processes that facilitate vocational skills development training in MINDS Hubs to allow clients to achieve their vocational aspirations.
Individualized Assessment and Planning
- Co-lead with OTs to design, develop and implement comprehensive vocational assessments to identify clients' skills, interests, aptitudes, preferences, and support needs.
- Analyse vocational training data, including goal progress tracking and other vocational assessment outcome data to develop reports and dashboards.
- Lead efforts to assess and address barriers to successful vocational training outcomes (e.g., transportation, assistive technology).
Job Readiness and Training
- Work with other cluster Lead Vocational Coaches to lead the planning of the approach, curriculum and implementation of one-on-one and group coaching in essential work readiness skills, according to different vocational training pathways (e.g. contract work, enclaves, supported employment, open employment) including both soft and hard skills.
- Design workshops on workplace etiquette, time management, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and self-advocacy.
- Work with JPJS and SE to plan for education efforts towards corporate and community partners/employers on accommodations and supports needed at the work environment.
Job Development
- Work closely with Social Enterprise Dept. to conduct targeted job development activities in enclave/supported employment type models, networking with local community partners/employers, and identifying suitable work opportunities in the community in enclave/supported employment models.
- Work closely with Social Enterprise Dept. to market clients' skills and abilities to potential employers in enclave/supported employment type models, advocating for their strengths and addressing any employer concerns.
- Work closely with SE and JPJS to facilitate client-job matching in enclave/supported employment settings and open employment setting respectively.
Job Coaching for Open Employment Clients
- Assess and evaluate the job coaching needs for existing JPJS graduates in the Cluster in their respective current employment to enhance their sustainability, job effectiveness and job retention.
- Assess and evaluate the job coaching needs of JPJS graduates who is no longer in employment and areas of training required for future job placements.
Advocacy and Empowerment
- Oversee advocacy efforts for clients to attain their own needs and goals, promoting self-determination and independence.
- Advocate for systemic changes that promote inclusive employment practices for persons with disabilities
Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree in any relevant discipline e.g. Special Education, Disability Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy.
Other Information
- Minimum of 5-6 years of experience working directly with persons with disabilities in a vocational, employment, or rehabilitation setting. Experience with job development and on-the-job coaching highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of ID/ASD, their impact on employment, and effective support strategies.
- Knowledge of vocational rehabilitation principles, theories, and best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and active listening skills.
- Ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with Persons with ID/ASD.
- Ability to work independently and lead a team.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing client needs and work environments
