A paramedic provides advanced emergency medical care outside of a hospital setting, typically in ambulances or other mobile units. They assess patients, provide treatment, and stabilize them for transport to medical facility. Paramedics also document medical care and communicate with hospital staff.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Emergency Medical Response

  • Provide immediate medical assistance during emergencies, ensuing high-quality prehospital care.
  • Respond promptly to emergency calls, assess patient's conditions and administer appropriate medical treatments on-site.
  • Lead and coordinate a 2- or 3-person team during emergency responses, making informed decisions regarding treatment procedures.
  • Stabilize patients and ensure safe transportation to medical facilities, maintaining continuous care enroute.

Operations

  • Ensure all medical equipment and supplies in the ambulance are functional and ready for use.
  • Ensure ambulance, medical equipment, and drug inventories at assigned station meet SCDF EMS and internal KPIs for start-of-shift readiness.
  • Provide care and transportation for emergency and non-emergency cases.
  • Provide Medical Coverage for High-Risk Events.

Reports & Documentation

  • Accurately document patient information, treatment provided, and other relevant details for medical records.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of patient care and transport activities.

Code of Conduct

  • Maintain professionalism, responsibility, and accountability in all duties.

SCDF Emergency Medical Services Specific Duties

  • Perform duties in accordance with SCDF EMS protocols and SOPs, including accurate and timely completion of ACRs and digital case entries.
  • Participate in operational briefings, drills, debriefings, and after-action reviews in line with SCDF EMS case protocols.
  • Comply with SCDF training standards and assessments.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Recognized Paramedic Certificate from SMTI/Civil Defense Academy, Higher NITEC in Paramedicine, Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Paramedicine, or other recognized qualifications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Ability to adapt, solve problems, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours with benefits provided for extra hours worked.
  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 due to the high-risk nature of the position.
  • Experience with SCDF EMS operations, including structured triage, SCDF CPGs, and SCDF ePCR systems, is an advantage.
