Lead Database Engineer

- The DBOps team in Grab is responsible for all online production databases. We identify database problems, provide solutions and also build automation platforms to automate repeatable operation work in the most efficient and optimized way. Our team is passionate about the details and work very closely with a wide range of stakeholders. - Get to know the Role:

- We are looking for talented and passionate Database Engineers to join our team. You will have opportunities to work on different database technologies with a large scale. It's very important that our team members take initiatives to identify problems, and have the right mindset and problem solving skills.
- The Day-to-Day Activities:

- You will be involved in the database design and working with different teams to choose the best database technologies for the use case. Research and develop new technologies and approaches for building highly available data persistence systems. Database optimization and performance tuning. Review and improve the daily database operation process. Provide guidance and implementation on the database monitoring and alerting. Diagnose any database issues and employ measures to prevent recurrence Work with engineering and operations team in building tooling to drive scalability, reliability and performance Advice and support product, engineering, support and operation teams Participate in on-call rotations
- The Must-Haves:
- Preferably a degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology or related fields-
- Deep understanding and real passion for relational database theory and database fundamentals-
- Deep understanding of RDBMS or NoSQL database internal engines-
- Proficiency with Linux system administration-
- Experience benchmarking, clustering and tuning the databases for performance, reliability, high availability and scalability-
- Experience in automation development, shell, python or Golang-
- Familiar with a key-value store or data structure database (such as Redis, ElasticSearch et al)-
- Experience with AWS RDS / Elasticache / other AWS-
- Database Services or experience with management of databases in AWS environment will a strong plus-
- Strong CS fundamentals (with competencies in algorithms and data structures)- Our Commitment:
