Title and Summary

Senior Counsel, Global Processing

Mastercard is a technology company in the global payments business, connecting customers, financial institutions, merchants, governments and businesses worldwide and enabling them to use secure and convenient electronic forms of payment. Mastercard Gateway is part of Mastercard’s Acceptance Solutions division and provides omni-channel gateway processing, fraud management and ancillary value added services to merchants, acquirers and other partners.

**Responsibilities**:
Reporting into the Senior Managing Counsel, South East Asia who is based in Singapore, you will:
Provide high quality advice to the business on a broad range of commercial and contractual matters

Draft complex technology services agreements

Handle cross-border contractual negotiations with merchants, suppliers and financial institutions, and contribute to commercial tender responses.

Help to identify and protect intellectual property and confidential data.

Provide legal and business risk assessment and analysis

Take responsibility for special projects while continuing to handle a steady stream of day-to-day matters

Ensure compliance with current company policies and procedures and identify areas for improvement

Understand and advise on local regulatory requirements

Manage external advisors within agreed policy and budget

Develop strong relationships with sales, professional services and senior management within the company, particularly for the AP region

Assist the resolution of customer issues

Review and approve product constructs

Provide training to sales and product teams.

Work with other functions within the gateway division for example HR, Real estate, sourcing.

Support other business needs within the region of the Acceptance division as needed and collaborate with other members of the legal and compliance teams.

**Requirements**:
A qualified lawyer with a solid academic and training background.

Strong English language skills necessary. Other languages an advantage.

Typically 8 or more years of PQE experience, including some time working in-house, preferably at a multinational company.

Strong drafting and negotiating skills across a range of commercial contracts and the ability to analyze complex situations and identify the core issues.

A self—starting fast learner able to gain rapid familiarity with our products and services and maintain knowledge of those changing products and services

Exposure to a broad range of commercial law issues.

A working knowledge of data privacy issues

Interest in gaining experience working with other product, legal and compliance teams.

Experience of working on cross-border agreements, and with multiple jurisdictions and time zones.

Solutions orientated and able to work flexibly under pressure and to tight deadlines

A lively interest in the business of the Company and an enjoyment of working in a fast-paced environment.

A proven ability to work independently and as team player coordinating and communicating with Mastercard teams, where necessary.

Experience in managing local counsel to ensure compliance in foreign jurisdictions.
