**About TUMCREATE**

TUMCREATE is a multidisciplinary research platform of the Technical University Munich (TUM) at the Singapore Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE). We are joining forces with universities, public agencies, and industry for the advancement of future technologies.

Our large-scale Food Science ‘Proteins4Singapore’ program is funded by Singapore’s National Research Foundation (NRF). The Technical University Munich (TUM) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) join forces with the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and A*STAR’s Singapore Institute of Food and Biotechnology Innovation (SIFBI) to research plant-based proteins.

**Job Purpose/Objective of the Position**:
The focus will be on creating innovative urban agro-food systems. The relevant project part focuses on algae biomass production for food use and its biotechnological processing to liberate and valorize the protein fraction.

**Responsibilities**:

- Planning and setting up a small-scale bioprocess and biotech laboratory
- Setting up and optimizing biomass production using algae cultures
- Setting up and optimizing enzyme production from microbial cultures
- Accessing new food resources (plants as well as microorganisms)
- Preparation of research reports, presentations and publications in English and German
- Leading a small team of Ph.D. and undergraduate students

**Job Requirements/Competencies**:

- Master’s or PhD in either Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioprocess Engineering or a related field
- Ability to operate analytical devices such as HPLC, FPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS and to perform basic protein chemical methods such as SDS-PAGE, molecular biology methods, such as cloning and expression of recombinant proteins
- In depth experience with hydrolase enzyme systems for biomass processing and fractionation would be advantageous
- Experience in cultivating different autotrophic and heterotrophic microorganisms
- Experience in planning and upscaling fermentation setups
- Multidisciplinary nature of the project requires strong translational skills for generated data and insights
- Good English writing and communication skills for working in an international research team
- Good interpersonal and teamworking skills
