
Junior School Specialist Teaching Assistant

**Curriculum**
- Work with a range of Students across different Grades to assist Teachers in the delivery of the taught English Curriculum.
- Planning English provision and leading instruction for individuals or groups for support or extension purposes as required and directed by Teachers.
- Consistently model exemplary standards of written and spoken English within and beyond the Classroom.
- Providing feedback to Teachers regarding individuals’ progress in English to support assessment and reporting processes.
- Attending Professional Development sessions and collaborative planning meetings as required, to keep knowledge of the English Curriculum up to date and proactively embed and promote key learning and attitudes such as love of reading, textual analysis, grammatical conventions, literary devices and phonological awareness in accordance with the Read, Write, Inc. programme.
- Listen to Students read.
- Consistently support and deliver provision in alignment with the ambitious academic standards and “no-ceilings”, individualised approach of NLCS (Singapore)’s academic ethos.
- Be aware of forward planning and events in the English Curriculum, such as Book Week, contributing ideas to the Subject Coordinator.
**Enrichment**
- Support the Junior School English Coordinator with administration, logistics and execution of English Enrichment opportunities for Students, such as competitions.
**Pastoral Care**
- Demonstrate a positive and caring attitude towards every Student.
- Liaise with and support Class Teacher and Junior School Management Team in all matters pertaining to pastoral well-being, responsibility and strategy.
- Supervise students in line with the School’s Code of Conduct for behaviour and discipline.
- Complete Student observations and feedback to the teacher, as necessary, in a range of formats.
- Follow the School’s policies and procedures with regard to pastoral provision.
**Organisation**
- Actively contribute to setting and maintaining daily routines.
- Support with regular audit of English class texts and teaching resources in the Junior School.
- Work with Teachers to prepare English resources for lessons.
- Maintain educational equipment used by Students, including care and hygiene.
**Classroom**
- Support Teachers and the Subject Coordinator in creating and maintaining an attractive, tidy, stimulating and supportive learning environment, including displays and equipment.
- Support Teachers in setting up and clearing away equipment and resources for Students to access during Mathematics lessons.
**Communication**
- Give regular feedback to Teachers on educational and pastoral issues.
- Communicate confidently with Staff across all key stages and departments, particularly English as an Additional Language (EAL).
- Communicate confidently and effectively with parents, referring to the teacher as required.
- Deal with queries from other areas informing Teachers or the Subject Coordinator as required.
**General**
- Work in areas of the School in other job-related tasks as circumstances require.
- Maintain a standard of personal image in keeping with the classroom role.
- Maintain on-going professional development in accordance with the requirements of the School and maintain an accurate and up to date record of that professional development.
**Safeguarding**:
- Abide by the school safeguarding policy and keep abreast of any changes.
**Qualifications/Skills**
- You should possess a Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education or above
- Minimum 3 years of working experience within a school or other education environment specifically with relevant experience of teaching and/or supporting English
- Previous experience of the UK National Curriculum would be an advantage but is not essential; of prime importance is the ability to motivate and inspire students in order to ensure that academic provision is consistently outstanding
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Meticulous, resourceful and with a strong sense of initiative
