DESIGNATION : Assistant Director / Senior Assistant Director, OAFA
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Rejuvenate, refine and monitor financial assistance (FA) policies to ensure that students will gain optimal benefits from SMU’s financial assistance plans and awards.
- Lead and manage a team to award needs-based governmental and donor scholarships and bursaries to students who are financially challenged.
- Lead a team to work towards a fully automated FA approach, using a technology-based platform.
- Lead annual reviews of means testing approaches to ensure timely FA awards and productive work flow processes.
- Oversee the selection of deserving students with the strongest fit for scholarships’ and bursaries’ requirements.
- Work with colleagues from the Integrated Information Technology Services in the development of a financial assistance analytics tracking dashboard to monitor/support various FA initiatives.
- Primary liaison with Office of Advancement on matters pertaining to donor-funded FA schemes.
- Primary liaison with various selection parties in identifying FA beneficiaries.
- Strategise and review FA website content to ensure strong engagement for students, information recency and accuracy.
- Evaluate FA publicity requests from external organisations and subsequent dissemination to the student community.
- Conduct an annual evaluation and review of the technology systems used for FA processes, to ensure that enhancements are up-to-date and efficient.
- Support the Head in managing budgetary planning activities and preparation of FA reports.
- Provide mentorship and professional development for staff in their work performance and career progression.
- If needed, provide counselling to students in need of financial assistance and guide them to consider available financing options, as well as attend to enquiries from students/parents/members of public.
- Participate in FA outreach whenever needed.
- Support the Head and HOD in ensuring efficient functioning of the team or any other office activities, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience, preferably with experience in a strategic financial aid/assistance role, ideally in a higher education or governmental organisation.
- A technology-driven outlook with familiarity in revamping prior operational platforms to technological automated platforms, and in developing cloud-based analytics and dashboard reporting.
- Strong project management skills to ensure recommended FA strategies are implemented and internalised successfully and permanently.
- Experience in leading teams to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
- A strong problem-solving approach in the competitive monitoring of peer institutions, and in the development of strategies and implementation processes to ensure a robust, efficient and timely financial assistance system.
- A meticulous approach to operations management, in order for improved processes to be rolled out efficiently and consistently, developing KPIs and analytics to monitor improvement and progress.
- Strong communications skills, both spoken and written.
- Highly motivated and driven, with good leadership, critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Good time management skills, meticulous and committed to delivering quality outputs.
- Ability to adapt to change, solve challenging issues, and be resourceful in managing difficult situations.
- Ability to work effectively, multi-task, lead and motivate team members towards meeting deliverables
- Meticulous with an eye for details.
