**Position Overview**:
This is an exciting and challenging position for anyone in the applied social and environmental sciences. As the Biodiversity Management Officer your primary responsibility will be to design and implement robust monitoring, evaluation, and reporting systems for our conservation and forest restoration projects. These projects are carried out in partnership with remote indigenous peoples and rural communities and are aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions while promoting biodiversity conservation and social welfare. You will play a crucial role in ensuring that our projects meet Verra's CCB Standard while also aligning with necessary monitoring and evaluation of key High Conservation Value (HCV) Guidelines that they deliver meaningful social and biodiversity benefits.
**Position Responsibilities**:
**Project Screening**:
Support the Development and Operations team with early stage research on biodiversity data needed at Project Feasibility stage. In particular, supporting the feasibility assessment process from the standpoint of potential value of projects from a biodiversity conservation standpoint.
Contribute to discussions on provide insight regarding project opportunities as required.
**Project Design and Compliance**:
Support the design and development of biodiversity conservation partnerships with local organizations. In some cases this may require a greater emphasis on the core project team, while in other project locations an emphasis on 3rd party partnerships may be required. The Officer, in any scenario, is focused on crafting and executing a comprehensive biodiversity strategy of the project that is aimed at achieving, at a minimum, the goals of the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standard (CCB)
Collaborate with project teams to integrate biodiversity impact considerations into the design and planning of conservation and forest restoration initiatives.
Ensure alignment with HCV Guidelines and Verra's latest CCB Standards throughout project development phase.
**Monitoring and Evaluation**:
- Develop and help implement comprehensive monitoring and evaluation frameworks, including measurable indicators, to assess the social and biodiversity impact of projects.
- Establish robust data collection methodologies and oversee data gathering efforts in the field.
- Analyze data and regularly evaluate project progress against predetermined targets and standards.
**Reporting and Documentation**:
- Prepare accurate and timely reports on project performance regarding measured biodiversity indicators for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Facilitate transparent reporting, ensuring compliance with HCV Guidelines and Verra's CCB standards.
- Support the development of key sections of Verra Project Documents, particularly those relating to biodiversity strategic design and annual results of impact monitoring.
**Stakeholder Engagement**:
- Work closely with remote indigenous peoples, rural communities, and other relevant stakeholders to foster meaningful and inclusive participation in project activities as required.
- Collaborate with local communities to understand their needs and concerns, and ensure their perspectives are integrated into project design and evaluation.
**Capacity Building**:
- Conduct capacity-building workshops and training sessions for project staff, local partners, and communities to enhance understanding of HCV Guidelines and CCB standards.
- Directly advise, oversee and support the Biodiversity Conservation Department of the Project through the design phase, capacitating the team along the way, and ensuring a clean and smooth hand-off of operational, monitoring and reporting responsibilities to local teams.
- Empower project stakeholders to actively contribute to biodiversity impact assessment efforts.
**Continuous Improvement**:
- Identify opportunities for enhancing the social and biodiversity impact of projects and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Stay informed about emerging best practices, research, and relevant industry trends in conservation and sustainable development.
**Eligibility Requirements**:
- Master's or doctoral degree in environmental management, forestry, social sciences, biodiversity conservation, or a related field.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing monitoring, evaluation, and reporting systems for conservation and forest restoration projects.
- Demonstrated experience working with remote indigenous peoples and rural communities in Southeast Asia.
- Strong analytical and data management skills, with proficiency in relevant software and tools.
- Excellent communication and cross-cultural interpersonal skills to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Project management experience and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
