**JOB PURPOSE**

The Director, Underwriting for Asia Pacific (APAC) region will report to the Sr. Director of Underwriting and will work collaboratively as part of a cross function team supporting the needs of Asurion’s APAC leadership team. The Director will be responsible for serving as a strategic business consultant, primarily focused on developing and enhancing relationships with regional (re)insurance carriers, service providers, and clients.

The Director will be expected to manage Underwriting team members within the APAC region. The role is expected to be based in Singapore with occasional travel to support our (re)insurance business relationships.

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Effectively lead the underwriting function within APAC region
- Interact with team members at varying levels with the organization as well as internal and external clients and vendors
- Establish trust-based relationships
- Solve complex issues and offer strategic recommendations to leadership
- Work with the legal and regulatory team to identify, manage and mitigate legal and regulatory risks
- Develop functional understanding of the company’s risk profile and the impact of product decisions on the company
- Represent Asurion with (re)insurance carrier partners and leading discussions on current and future programs and pursuing innovative solutions that deliver results
- Build a strong underwriting team within the region and develop high-caliber talent to enhance underwriting capabilities and presence across the APAC region
- Identify and deal with root cause issues
- Maintain knowledge of APAC region competitor products and market intelligence for (re)insurance programs and service contract plans
- Attend (re)insurance industry-based events and join local trade associations to help develop Asurion’s brand and enhance local relationships
- Represent the underwriting function in product development and go to market forums to ensure optimum design and launch
- Understand captive (re)insurance programs and captive management governance processes; and
- Support APAC leadership and Asurion’s Underwriting team and taking part in special projects and duties as needed.

**Skills/Requirements for Director, Underwriting**:

- Relevant expertise and understanding of (re)insurance and underwriting concepts and processes, industry experience of APAC (re)insurance programs and service contract plan products and markets
- Able to work well within a team environment, as well as individually and collaborate effectively
- Strong professional, interpersonal and organizational skills, and experienced at communicating with colleagues at various levels of the organization
- Initiative-taking, outgoing, and open-minded, and having a flair for discovering and learning new things
- Possessing strong analytical and critical thinking skills to understand problems, evaluate alternative courses of action to drive effective decision making
- Aptitude and motivation for staying current with changes in (re) insurance and service contract industry
- Should have (re)insurance expertise in the APAC region and experience and presence in Singapore and the APAC (re)insurance markets; and
- Computer skills and accounting knowledge are important in the field of insurance underwriting and captive management.
