**Summary**:

- To work with the Senior Underwriter to determine local and regional targets.
- To retain existing business at acceptable ratings and loss ratios.
- Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing members and brokers.
- Whilst based in Singapore, work alongside and be a member of Asia Underwriting Team. (London) to ensure consistency of underwriting approach

**Main Responsibilities**:

- Work towards achieving the Corporate Plan
- Be accountable for allocated underwriting areas, within Singapore and South East Asia
- Recognise the role of the London Broker
- Ensure Senior Underwriter is kept aware of all relevant market information related to Members or Target Members
- Promote UK P&I Club (and be aware of other Thomas Miller Transport Clubs / businesses).
- Ensure questions are satisfactorily answered on “Know Your Client Document”
- Propose, negotiate and agree terms of entry, including renewal to achieve any general increase set by the Board of Directors, to brokers or members. Subject always to prior approval requirements being obtained
- Identify, report and develop new business in conjunction with the senior underwriter and Regional director.
- Acquire and assess information required for new business in conjunction with the Senior Underwriter
- Request and release rates and terms of entry to/from other P&I
- Correctly interpret other P&I Club’s Rules into UK P&I Club Rules
- Liaise with Credit Control and assist with the collection of outstanding debts
- Arrange reinsurance placements in conjunction with the Reinsurance Director, Offshore & Contracts Director and/or Senior Claims Executive.
- Risk assessment for changes to rates and terms (consulting Senior Underwriter and/or Chief Underwriting Office where appropriate).
- Assess findings from Infospectrum reports
- Agree wordings of new terms and conditions and assessing the implications to the cover of any new wordings if necessary in conjunction with legal director or senior claims executive.
- Present “Club and Underwriting” material.
- Develop and maintain member and broker relationships.
- Entertain members, brokers or visitors where required.
- Identify business to be serviced, from an underwriting perspective, in Singapore or London, or both
- Attend meetings, both internally and externally where required.
- Networking in Singapore including the attendance of conferences and seminars when appropriate
- Maintain relevant dialogue with Claims Executives regarding claims development and member portfolio.
- International and regional travel where required.
- To arrange appropriate cover during holidays and travel.
- Be aware of level of authority within the role.
- Update Renewal Screens on MN2, seeking approval where required.

- Where we are in the current market, both globally and regionally
- Singapore and South East Asia n markets
- Additional covers provided by the UK Club

**Have a sound knowledge of**:

- Thomas Miller and other Miller Clubs
- Marine Insurance Market
- Shipping market
- UK P&I Club’s position in relation to its competitors, financial and investment information
- Current market issues e.g. regulations or requirements effecting P&I cover

**You may be required to**:

- Provide technical training to relevant Singapore colleagues

- Able to represent the UK P&I Club
- Able to work in and contribute to the Singapore office, and be part of Global Underwriting team
- A good communicator
- Enthusiastic, self-motivated and of sound judgement
- Able to work independently, taking responsibility for own workload and delegate work
