Computer-aided Transcription Court Reporters

Court reporting is an elite global profession in which the reporter writes a word-for-word record of court and other legal proceedings using a computerised shorthand (stenotype) machine.

The duties of a qualified Court Reporter include:

- Attending legal hearings
- Capturing every spoken word
- Using machine shorthand to write a verbatim record of proceedings
- Correcting grammatical mistakes while preserving the original sense of the spoken context
- Editing the text and producing an accurate transcript

Court Reporting services may also be required at political hearings, public inquiries, tribunals, disciplinary hearings, interviews and media events and television (subtitling and captioning).

Epiq is looking to recruit **qualified **and **experienced **court reporters (stenographers).
- Possess an expert shorthand speed of at least 180 words per minute
- Be proficient in realtime writing and computer-aided transcription (CAT) using computerised shorthand (stenotype) machine
- Be proficient in English grammar, spelling and punctuation
- Have an excellent understanding of legal principles and medical terminology
- Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Have an understanding and appreciation of legal and business ethics
- Possess a high level of professionalism
- Able to operate the court reporting software effectively and efficiently
- Possess own steno machine
