A Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Quantity Surveyor (QS) is responsible for **managing the costs associated with the mechanical and electrical aspects of construction projects**. This includes tasks from the initial tender stage through to project completion, ensuring cost-effectiveness, quality, and adherence to regulations.

Pre-Contract Phase:

- **Tendering**:Preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQ), taking off quantities from drawings, pricing, and preparing tender submissions.
- **Subcontractor Management**:Sourcing, evaluating, and negotiating with M&E subcontractors and suppliers.
- **Cost Estimation**:Developing detailed cost estimates for M&E works, including direct and indirect costs.
- **Contract Review**:Analyzing and reviewing contract documents for M&E works.

Post-Contract Phase:

- **Cost Control**:Monitoring project costs against budget, tracking variations, and implementing cost-saving measures.
- **Progress Claims**:Preparing and submitting progress claims for M&E works, and verifying subcontractor claims.
- **Variation Orders**:Managing and pricing variations to M&E works.
- **Final Accounts**:Assisting in the settlement of final accounts with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- **Contract Administration**:Ensuring contract compliance and managing contractual issues related to M&E works.
- **Reporting**:Providing regular cost reports and financial performance updates to stakeholders.
- **Value Engineering**:Identifying opportunities for cost reduction and value improvement in M&E systems.

General Responsibilities:

- **Liaison**:Working closely with project managers, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders.
- **Risk Management**:Identifying and assessing commercial risks associated with M&E works.
- **Compliance**:Ensuring M&E works comply with relevant regulations and standards.
- **Documentation**:Maintaining accurate and up-to-date project documentation.
- **Problem Solving**:Addressing any cost-related issues or challenges that arise during the project.
