**Job Opening: Assistant Sales Manager - Chinese Bookstore**:

**Salary Range**: $2,800 - $3,600/month (commensurate with experience and language proficiency)

**About Us**:
We are a Chinese bookstore located in Bras Basah Complex, Singapore’s iconic book and cultural hub, serving readers, educators, and cultural enthusiasts. Surrounded by art schools, museums, and libraries, our store offers a curated selection of Chinese-language books, cultural products, and literary events for both locals and institutions. We’re expanding our outreach and looking for a passionate, bilingual team member to join us.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Lead the daily operations of the bookstore: opening/closing, display setup, and cleanliness.
- Supervise a small retail team and ensure smooth coordination during daily operations..
- Ensure smooth POS operation and accurate daily sales reconciliation.
- Train team members on book knowledge, POS use, customer interaction, and display management.
- Develop familiarity with adult book collections and recommend titles confidently.
- Collaborate closely with Marketing & Event Coordinator on seasonal themes, displays, and events.
- Monitor stock movements, flag reorder needs, and coordinate with sales coordinator.
- Assist with online order packaging when required.
- Participate and lead efforts during bookstore events and pop-up fairs..
- Minimum 3-5 years’ retail experience, with some supervisory exposure.
- Strong leadership, people management, and customer service skills.
- Well-read or eager to learn about Chinese literature, lifestyle books, and cultural reads.
- Excellent communication in Mandarin and English.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and hands-on in daily operations.
- Able to work retail weekends and public holidays on rotation.

**Ideal Qualifications**:

- Minimum: Diploma in Retail Management, Business Administration, Chinese Studies, or related field
- Preferred: Degree in Business or Humanities (but not required if experience is strong)
- 3 to 5 years of retail experience, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or team lead role
- Experience in bookstore or cultural retail is a strong plus
- Fluent in both Mandarin and English (spoken and written)
- Strong people management and training skills
- Familiarity with inventory control and retail sales reporting
- Comfortable with Microsoft Excel or basic office software
- Able to support event coordination and display setup
- Willing to work weekends and rotate shifts as needed
