Principal Sustainability Standards

**About the Role**:
A new global Sustainability team within BHP’s Commercial organization has been created to reflect the growing criticality to our stakeholders, including also BHP’s downstream markets, on sustainability standards, value chain due diligence and traceability.

Accordingly, two newly created Principal Sustainability Standards roles have been created with one role focused primarily on value chain due diligence and the other role focused primarily on traceability. Both roles will report to the Manager for Sustainability Standards within the new Marketing Sustainability function.

Both roles will have global responsibilities across all of BHP’s commodities and serve to provide thought leadership, strategy, program management and governance related to either minerals value chain due diligence or a cross-commodity approach to traceability.

The role plays an important role in understanding the standards, regulatory and technology landscapes surrounding value chain sustainability and transparency. The roles serve to ultimately lead initiatives that lift the transparency of ESG performance across minerals and metals value chains. The roles will interact with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. The roles enable an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in shaping the global ecosystems for standards, due diligence and traceability while supporting BHP’s ESG credentials and social value for people and the planet.

**Core Accountabilities**:
The **Principal Sustainability Standards value chain due diligence **role will have the following main responsibilities:

- Responsible globally for the design and governance of BHP’s global minerals supply chain due diligence program to position BHP for better practice due diligence and compliance against constantly evolving supply chain due diligence standards and emerging legislation.
- Contribute as BHP’s global center of knowledge on minerals supply chain due diligence and contribute into the development of a broader future state due diligence strategy working closely across various functions that interact with due diligence.
- Support the advocacy of standards and legislation relating to minerals supply chain due diligence working closely across a broad range of internal stakeholders and external due diligence related stakeholders.

The **Principal Sustainability Standards traceability **role will have the following main responsibilities:

- Responsible globally for developing BHP’s global cross-commodity approach to traceability, in careful consideration of the requirements of all commodities, and partnering closely with a wide range of stakeholders related to traceability.
- Contribute as BHP’s global center of knowledge on traceability and contribute also to the development of chain of custody standards and other related standards for the industry. Engage with traceability solution providers and other external parties to position BHP for best practice.

**About You**:

- Demonstrated commitment or potential to instilling BHP’s Charter values
- Passion in ESG including influencing impact through people and standards
- Proven ability to learn new concepts quickly and manage complexity and ambiguity
- Comprehensive communication (written and verbal), presentation and analytical skills
- Proven capability to lead complex projects and influence without formal authority
- Proven ability to build rapport quickly and collaborate authentically with a broad range of stakeholders
- Experience working inclusively within cross-disciplined and cross-cultural teams
- Demonstrated commitment to learning and self-development

Recommended:

- At least 5 years of working experience in commercial, technical and/or sustainability-related roles ideally related to the minerals and/or metals value chain or similar industries
- Degree in a business, technical and/or sustainability related discipline with Masters qualifications considered an advantage
- Demonstrated experience related to sustainability standards, due diligence, chain of custody, traceability and/or related regulations would be considered an advantage
