Power Analyst

**Job Summary**:
The Power Analyst for Transmission Trading is responsible for analyzing internal transmission congestion risks in the rolling and monthly CRR/FTR auctions, as well as PTP/Virtual/OTC Transactions in Day-Ahead and Real-Time markets. The Power Analyst will assess congestion opportunities in North American Power Markets—ERCOT, MISO, and PJM—via fundamental analysis of power transmission systems. The Analyst will also conduct research to understand the impact of global macroeconomics on congestion risks. This front office role offers the opportunity to actively participate in opportunity identification and trade execution in the FTR/CRR/PTP/Virtual/OTC markets. The analyst is expected to analyze large datasets and be self-sufficient in coding and automation tasks.

**Tasks**:

- Provide transmission system/congestion analysis and price forecasting for speculative trading and asset optimization in FTR/CRR/PTP/Virtual/OTC markets.
- Build, calibrate, and maintain power system models for trading one to twenty-four months out.
- Develop sophisticated data models and reports, dashboards, and tools to support the analytical needs of the trading team.
- Identify speculative trading opportunities by assessing the performance of the U.S./North America electric grid in both the long and near term.
- Update the trading team on daily congestion patterns and transmission system changes, identifying portfolio risks and trading opportunities.
- Analyze the impact of macroeconomic variables on congestion risks in electricity transmission systems.
- Support the power origination team through transmission analysis studies.

**Requirements**:

- Ability to work U.S. hours or overlap significantly with them to support trading operations.
- 3+ years of experience in transmission analysis and SCED/LMP market modeling, with at least 2 years of experience using simulation models such as PowerWorld, Dayzer, PROMOD, UPLAN, Panorama, etc. Experience in automating Dayzer/PowerWorld-based transmission system analysis infrastructure is highly desirable.
- Experience with PJM/MISO/ERCOT transmission system analysis and nodal market structure.
- Proficiency in EXCEL/VBA, Python, SQL, and Tableau.
- Comfortable handling third-party data such as Yes Energy Data Signals.
- Ability to make data-driven decisions based on comprehensive analysis of large datasets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present complex analysis to CXO-level management and trading teams.
- Ability to work both independently and in collaborative teams.
- Undergraduate/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Energy Science, or Power System Engineering.

- Conduct long-term market price forecasting, renewable energy modeling, and congestion/curtailment studies to support market analysis.
- Utilize Big Data Analytics, Python, SQL, and Tableau to drive advanced market data analysis and develop effective power trading strategies.
- Guide and mentor teams, leading them through complex projects while ensuring high-quality, impactful results.
- Communicate complex analysis effectively to stakeholders at all levels, fostering collaboration across teams.
- Perform fundamental analysis on PJM and MISO FTR, as well as MISO virtuals, using tools like Dayzer, Panorama, YES Energy, and Tableau.
- Lead fundamental analysis, portfolio optimization, and risk assessment strategies in both PJM and MISO markets.
- Create and manage ISO-agnostic infrastructure, transforming Dayzer output into actionable data for traders and analysts.
- Optimize runtime and shift factor runs in systems like Dayzer to improve overall efficiency.
- Leverage proficiency in Python, VBA, SQL, PowerWorld, and MATLAB to drive improvements in trading strategies and system performance.
