**JOB SUMMARY**
The Senior Staff Nurse is required to assist the Senior Nurse Manager/ Nurse Clinician to manage the operation of Central Sterile Supplies Department. He/ she maintains and ensure Infection Control practices and educates junior staff regarding Infection Control. He/she also provides guidance and direction to the nursing staff regarding sterilization principles and practices. Assist and participate in JCI and other audits.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Collaborate with Nurse Clinician and Senior Nurse Manager to define and develop plans to meet objectives for excellent care and best outcome for patients
- Ensure work carried out is according to hospital guidelines, policies, procedures and work instructions.
- Assume responsibility and accountability for the safe operation of all processes.
- Develop, implement and collaborate with all staff to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for all staff to work.
- Ensure and maintain principles of sterility of all instruments before, during and after distribution.
- Ensure proper documentation of processes and upkeep records promptly and maintain accurate inventory of instrument sets.
- Ensure equipment is at its functional state and safe for use before distribution.
- Be knowledgeable in the functions and usage, care and maintenance of equipment and instrumentation.
- Proficient and knowledgeable of the various sterilization methods and complex instruments.
- Plan, co-ordinate and ensure availability of instrumentation, equipment and supplies when requested by user areas.
- Ensure and supervise all staff so that all Biological Culture are properly handled, correctly labelled, incubated and documented
- Ensure that all documentation of sterilization process is properly and accurately entered.
- Ensure that all staff practice Standard Precaution and put on full PPE at all times.
- Ensure and maintain safe work place for all staff to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Ensure all equipment is in good working order.
- Assist SNM/NC on collection of quality indicators and provide information for quality reports
- Responsible for supervising subordinates in following established guidelines in their assembling and packing of instrument.
- Check and ensure that all sealing and culture monitoring equipment are in good working condition.
- Ensure and maintain safe work place for all staff to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Verify all sterilization process printouts when required.
- Assist the Nurse Clinician in performance appraisal and continuous assessment of new staff
- Assist the Nurse Clinician to maintain / update records of skill development / competency check lists of new / trainees of discipline.
- Update and maintain proper documentation for all changes and entries of instrument stock inventory.
- Ensure all instrument requests are met in a timely manner.
- Assist in inventory and stock take
- Supervise and guide the Healthcare Attendants and Healthcare Assistants in the pasting of service code for processed goods.
- Participate in quality improvement activities, self-development and personal growth programmes.

**Job Requirements**
**EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE**
- A recognized Certificate/ Degree in nursing or its equivalent.
- At least 5 years as a Registered Nurse in health care setting.
- Valid BCLS Certification.
- Valid practising certificate issued by Singapore Nursing Board.
