About the role

What you need to know:
Southeast Asia Chief Compliance Officer:

- The role includes the oversight and management of Compliance function for the following countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Philippines plus Guam. It also includes the supervision of Compliance function for the Shared Services and AIG Travel Assist in Malaysia
- Hiring and training qualified local compliance officers and other professional staff, as required, that have the requisite knowledge, experience and personal qualities to be able to carry out their duties effectively.
- Ensuring that the local compliance officers possess a sound understanding of relevant laws, regulations, rules, standards, internal guidelines, and the AIG Code of Conduct, and their practical impact on the business operations.
- Maintaining in-depth knowledge of the businesses and their activities in order to ensure adequate compliance oversight and resources as business needs evolve over time; advising the respective executive management teams on emerging regulatory and compliance issues.
- Developing, documenting, and maintaining business-wide compliance programs for all countries in SEA that include risk assessments, development and maintenance of applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines, that are appropriately tailored to prevent, detect, and correct specific compliance risksSupport the Data Analytics team to ideate and develop tools to monitor compliance and/or regulatory risks within the region
- Manage resolution of compliance matters, coordinating with the local Head of Compliance, local CEO, and Regional and Global Compliance.
- Escalate reportable compliance issues for the region in accordance with set timeframes and requirements to the Chief Compliance Officer General Insurance Asia Pacific.
- Performing other tasks from time-to-time as directed by Asia Pacific or Global Compliance.

Singapore Local Compliance Officer
- In country advisor for compliance issues and conduit for both regional compliance function / and regional management on matters that affect country compliance programs and stakeholder / regulator engagement.
- Accountable for the execution of requirements outlined in the compliance plan.
- Accountable for the effective implementation of Compliance owned policies through advice on process development/enhancement and training to meet compliance requirements.
- Actively contribute in the matters being discussed at the management committees where Compliance is an invitee or a member, and where relevant provide inputs of the matters under Compliance’ purview.
- Escalate reportable compliance issues in accordance with set timeframes and requirements to the Southeast Asia Chief Compliance Officer, AIG API management committees, senior managers and the local Board Committee.
- To act as in country ‘point of contact’ for externally led examinations or visits and liaise with local regulators as required. As required, lead or assist with any special investigations that may be required to be performed.
- Conduct Compliance Risk Assessments in accordance with the Group’s procedure, by assessing the inherent risk ratings for the defined key compliance risks, assessing controls in place for key compliance risks and finalizing the residual risk ratings for these key compliance risks. Constantly evaluate the effectiveness of controls and develop action plans where necessary to address control deficiencies.
- As necessary, undertake local compliance assignments or initiatives that may be led by regional/global compliance teams.
- Monitor the ongoing effectiveness of the compliance program and proactively identify key activities to drive changes to the testing schedule. Promptly escalate such instances to the Southeast Asia Chief Compliance Officer and the local Board Committee.
- Coordinate as required with the compliance monitoring and testing team and to report its findings to Local Management and relevant Local Committees in accordance with prescribed methodologies.
