**What the role is**
- Energy is a key enabler of Singapore’s society and economy. Having secure, reliable and affordable access to energy is an existential issue for Singapore as it is a key pillar of Singapore’s economic competitiveness and Singaporeans’ quality of life. One of Singapore’s biggest challenges over the next 50 years is to ensure a secure, affordable, and low-carbon energy future, in view of the climate imperative. This energy transition will be especially challenging for Singapore, given our scarce natural resources and limited renewable energy options. The future of our energy landscape, our economic competitiveness and quality of life, will therefore depend on our ability to transition and effectively harness our four “switches” - natural gas, solar, electricity imports, and low-carbon alternative. MTI’s Energy Division is responsible for formulating Singapore’s energy policies and strategies, together with the Energy Market Authority, other Government agencies, academics and private sector stakeholders. This includes developing and maintaining competitive energy markets, driving the development and deployment of solar and other alternative sources of energy, and promoting international and regional cooperation. MTI’s Energy Division plays a critical role in securing Singapore’s energy future, and is looking for driven and capable individuals to join our team.

**What you will be working on**
- You will be part of a dynamic team charged with the development and deployment of alternative energy sources and technologies, the development of the energy sector, and the strengthening of international and regional energy cooperation. In particular, you will be responsible for one or more of the following work streams: - Formulate robust strategies and policies to support Singapore's energy research, development & deployment (RD&D) to foster innovative energy solutions that contribute to our economic development and national needs. This include solutions to support renewable energy deployment (e.g. solar, energy storage systems), electricity imports (e.g. cable technologies, smart grids), low carbon solutions (e.g. hydrogen and carbon capture, utilisation and storage), and others;
- Formulate robust strategies and policies to support the development of the energy sector, including workforce capability building;
- Strengthen energy collaborations and international organisations (e.g. International Energy Agency (IEA) and International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)) and countries with common interests in low-energy energy transitions, e.g. through agreements, MOUs, dialogues, partnerships, and participation at various international energy-related fora. Facilitate collaborations across these stakeholders, involving Government agencies, industry players, and academia as appropriate;
- Profile Singapore’s efforts and thought leadership in energy matters through events such as the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW);
- Develop and implement communications and engagement plans to broader energy sector changes; and - Monitor developments in global energy landscape and analyse implications for domestic energy policies.
