Executive Director, Transaction Banking Product Design, APAC - SMBC

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Transaction Banking ("TB") Product Designer to accelerate our transaction banking development.

Transaction Banking is one of the strategic priorities for SMBC Group, and this role aims to strengthen expertise in the TB domain to foster business growth.

This role will lead the team, define the TB Product vision, and ensure alignment with business goals and customer needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Development & Delivery:
    • Manage the product delivery roadmap.
    • Drive the design and development of products into delivery by coordinating with IT, Ops, and other teams.
    • Collaborate with the business to shape and influence the overall product vision, ensuring alignment with business goals and customer needs across APAC markets.
  • Backlog Management:
    • Groom, prioritize, and maintain multiple backlogs (Product, Defect, BAU).
    • Write clear and actionable user stories, review, approve user stories and acceptance criteria.
    • Ensure the backlog is visible, transparent, and understood by all team members.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
    • Act as the primary liaison between stakeholders and the development team.
    • Gather and analyze feedback from customers, users, and stakeholders to refine the product.
  • Sprint Planning and Execution:
    • Lead or participate in sprint ceremonies and planning meetings to define goals and priorities.
    • Ensure the development team understands the requirements and priorities.
    • Review and accept completed work during sprint reviews.
  • Change Management & Decision Making:
    • Make decisions regarding product features, scope, and priorities.
    • Balance technical constraints, business needs, and user requirements.
    • Manage change requests through a well-defined change management framework.
  • Market and User Research:
    • Conduct market research and analyze user behavior to identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Monitor industry trends and competitor products.
  • Performance Monitoring:
    • Track product performance metrics and ensure quality standards are met.
    • Identify areas for improvement and drive continuous enhancement.
  • Team Building and Management:
    • Build a high-performing team of domain experts, fostering a culture of innovation, compliance, and industry best practices.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of one of the business domains (Cash Management, Trade Finance, Lending, Treasury).
  • Good grasp of technologies to understand and appreciate solution fitment to business requirements, able to question and challenge solution estimates regarding complexity.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, especially Scrum.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing demands.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with product management tools (e.g., Jira, Trello, Azure DevOps).
  • Knowledge of the relevant industry or domain.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, or a related field (preferred).
