
Exhibition Curator

The Exhibitions Curator is responsible for the development, planning, and execution of exhibitions that reflect the museum's mission, vision, and strategic goals. This role involves curating exhibition spaces, managing content development, and coordinating the logistical and creative aspects of in-house exhibitions. The Exhibitions Curator works closely with artists, lenders, institutions, and internal departments to create compelling, meaningful, and accessible experiences for diverse audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Exhibition Development & Curation
- Conceive, research, and develop exhibition concepts aligned with the museum's programming strategy and audience engagement goals.
- Select and organize artworks for exhibition, including arranging loans and negotiating with artists, collectors, and partner institutions.
- Write curatorial texts, including wall labels, exhibition overviews, and catalog entries.
2. Exhibition Planning & Implementation
- Coordinate with design, conservation, registration, education, and operations teams to realize exhibition projects from planning through installation.
- Develop detailed project timelines, checklists, and installation plans.
- Oversee installation and de-installation processes to ensure curatorial integrity and exhibition quality.
- Monitor and manage exhibition budgets in collaboration with the finance or project management team.
3. Exhibition Space Management
- Plan and curate the use of museum exhibition spaces to ensure an engaging and coherent visitor experience across multiple galleries.
- Coordinate layout and exhibition design in collaboration with exhibition designers and technicians.
- Ensure the proper care, handling, and display of objects during exhibition periods.
4. Public Engagement & Communication
- Collaborate with education and communications departments to support public programming, tours, and interpretive materials related to exhibitions.
- Participate in public speaking, press previews, and special events to represent the curatorial vision of the museum.
- Stay informed about trends in contemporary curatorial practice, exhibition design, and audience engagement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Curatorial Practice, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in curatorial work or exhibition planning within a museum, gallery, or cultural institution.
- Strong knowledge of curatorial methodologies and art handling.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple projects on deadline.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., MS Office, Collection Management Systems, Adobe Creative Suite) is an asset.
