LME Metals Derivative Accountant

The LME Metals Derivative Accountant is responsible for overseeing the accounting, reconciliation, and reporting of all derivative positions related to base metals and precious metals trading (primarily on the London Metal Exchange and CME). This role ensures that mark-to-market valuations, hedge accounting treatments, and realized/unrealized profit and loss are accurately captured and aligned with both front‐office trading systems and financial statements. The position acts as a key bridge between the trading desk, operations, and finance teams. Key Responsibilities Validate and reconcile daily LME derivative trades (primarily futures and options) between front‐office, brokers, and clearing statements. Ensure accurate trade booking and position mapping to underlying physical exposures. Valuation & P&L Reporting Perform daily and month‐end mark‐to‐market valuations on open derivative positions using LME official/closing prices. Reconcile realized vs. unrealized P&L with the trading and operations teams. Support variance analysis between forecasted and actual results. Hedge Accounting & IFRS Compliance Maintain hedge documentation and effectiveness testing (IFRS 9 / ASC 815). Ensure correct accounting treatment for derivatives — fair value through P&L vs. OCI. Work closely with auditors on derivative disclosures and note requirements. Track initial and variation margins, ensuring timely settlements with brokers and clearinghouses. Reconcile cash movements related to margin calls. Systems & Process Control Oversee data integrity between operations trading platforms and accounting systems (Dynamics). Design and maintain robust control procedures for derivative accounting. Contribute to automation and process improvement initiatives. Reporting & Analysis Produce internal derivative exposure and hedge effectiveness reports. Support management in understanding risk sensitivities and mark‐to‐market impacts. Liaise with Treasury for FX impacts of non‐USD positions. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; CPA / ACCA preferred. 5+ years of experience in commodity accounting or financial reporting, ideally within a metals trading house,
