Overview

Nanyang Assistant Professor of Neuroscience and AI, at the Nair Lab (NTU Singapore) in collaboration with LKCMedicine and IMCB/A*STAR, is recruiting PhD Students and Research Fellows to join us at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology (IMCB), A*STAR.

We study how neural circuits and machine learning models process and represent emotional states, combining large-scale neural recordings with the development of new AI methods for behavior and neural data. The lab has pioneered data-driven AI methods to reveal neural signals underlying aggression, sexual arousal and fear, with publications in Cell, Nature, and Science.

Open PhD Tracks (Fully Funded for 4 Years)

  • NeuroAI PhD : Focus on computational neuroscience and machine learning, including deep learning, multimodal transformers, LLMs and data-driven dynamical systems models.
  • Systems Neuroscience PhD : Focus on large-scale neural recordings (imaging, electrophysiology) to uncover circuit-level mechanisms of emotion.

Research Fellow Positions

We welcome postdoctoral candidates with expertise in systems neuroscience, AI/ML, or computational modeling to lead independent projects and mentor junior researchers.

What We're Looking For

  • Highly ambitious individuals with a strong background in AI or experimental neuroscience.
  • For PhD Positions :
  • Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Neuroscience, Psychology, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Engineering, Biology, or related fields.
  • For the Systems Neuroscience track, prior experience with mouse neuroscience experimental techniques is highly advantageous.
  • For Research Fellow Positions :
  • PhD in Computational Neuroscience, Systems Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields.
  • Track record of high-quality publications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead research initiatives.
